Rihanna is still kicking around New York City following the Met Gala. Here she is last night, going to dinner with her friend, Melissa Forde. Rihanna, as we know, does not stop her nocturnal hours or her fashion game for anything, not even pregnancy and babies.
She looks incredible, and I love her slouchy boots, I am here for slouchy boots making a comeback. Which certainly they must if Rihanna is making them the look of the summer? Never mind that Alton Mason rocked a pair at the Met Gala!
But while Riri was having a girls’ night out in New York, A$AP Rocky is in Miami, where the Formula 1 Miami Grand Prix is taking place this weekend. F1 is Lainey’s beat, but I get to have Opinions on road races because Chicago, my hometown, is hosting a NASCAR road race this July. And that opinion is: NASCAR is not NEARLY as cool and glamorous as Formula 1. Like, we will definitely not get Rihanna and A$AP Rocky in town that weekend, you know? It’s a different, er, class of celebrity with NASCAR.
But this weekend is going to be nuts in Miami, because F1 draws a big crowd—increasingly big in North America, thanks to Netflix’s Drive to Survive series—not to mention the myriad parties and concerts happening all weekend adjacent to the race. I know NASCAR has a whole culture, but is it “dance parties and fashion week” culture? Is it “Riri and Rocky” culture? We all know it’s not.
