Robert Downey Jr, Karen Gillan, and Benedict Cumberbatch were dispatched to Singapore yesterday to promote Avengers: Infinity War. This is the first time we’ve seen RDJ, the “godfather” of the Avengers, on this press tour as we’re now inside two weeks before the release of the movie. A few more events are expected to take place around the world before they all assemble next Monday in Hollywood for the world premiere. 

RDJ, as you can see, looks great, and when he’s on, there’s no better salesperson for the franchise. Did you ever see him getting in the sales pitch for Black Panther? I mean, in the end, Black Panther probably didn’t need it, but the Godfather was there all the same, giving his blessing. 

 

Does he bless all Avengers equally though? There’s an Avenger who’s been missing from all the Infinity War promotional materials. That would be Jeremy Renner aka Hawkeye. I don’t miss him. But the nerds do. And RDJ is aware of it. Apparently there’s even a hashtag, #WhereIsHawkeye? Of course RDJ decided to turn this into a joke. While in Singapore, when Joe Russo the co-director was asked about the movie’s big bad, Thanos, and which Avenger was best equipped to defeat him, he talked about teamwork and that it would require a full team effort. RDJ? Here was his response: 

"Here's my guess - because I haven't read the script [Laughter]. Because Jeremy Renner is not in the poster, I think he's the only one that can beat Thanos! I think it's Hawkeye! [Cheers] No, I think it's Jeremy: only Jeremy can defeat him [laughs]."

I mean…

Maybe it’s not exactly what he meant but you could take it as a cheeky nod to the fact that, well, nobody’s getting taken down by a few arrows, you know? Which Jeremy himself has mocked before, on SNL I think. (I’m too lazy to look it up because…seriously… it’s Hawkeye.) 

Anyway, supposedly Hawkeye will have a purpose on the story? There’s a theory that he’s on a Very Important Mission. That takes away all his screen time? Is that how important it is? 

Am I going to be yelled at for the rest of the day by Hawkeye stans?
