Ryan Gosling is playing Neil Armstrong in Damien Chazelle’s new biopic First Man. Claire Foy is playing his wife, Janet Armstrong. The first trailer is premiering tonight during Jimmy Kimmel Live! which explains why Ryan was spotted wearing a spacesuit at the Kimmel studios yesterday.
Ryan doesn’t leave his private paparazzi-less bubble much. We typically only see him when he’s got something to promote. First Man doesn’t come out until October. The first images were released yesterday, along with an interview with Damien Chazelle raving about Ryan and about his chemistry with Claire Foy. So, they’re putting in the work EARLY.
The movie has an October release – prime Oscar spot. It’s a Ryan Gosling/ Damien Chazelle reunion. We already know the Academy likes them both. We also know how much the Academy loves biopics. So, this one’s a lock for multiple nominations then, right?

IF this goes the way I think it will, this will be Ryan Gosling’s third nomination. He has yet to win. Ryan was pretty visible during the La La Land campaign but he never really seemed like he wanted it. He also never had a real shot. Does Ryan Gosling want an Oscar like Leo wanted one? I don’t think he’s as desperate. But he’s wearing a joke space suit five months before his movie’s release date. Maybe we’re going to see a proper Ryan Gosling for Best Actor campaign. What does that look like?
