Dear Gossips,

There are two couples that the internet is shipping hard right now and both were given boosts of encouragement this weekend.

First, Martin Short and Meryl Streep who were papped out for dinner the other night, resulting in yet another round of speculation about whether or not they’re together. And then this happened:

Now people are all like… what do you meaaaaannnnn, Steve?! Did you just confirm that Meryl and Marty are indeed in love IRL just like Loretta and Oliver on Only Murders in the Building??? Or was he just making himself laugh? Or both?! I love that he’s playing on the internet like this.

And then there’s Andrew Garfield on Chicken Shop Date with Amelia Dimoldenberg, probably the most anticipated episode of the series after their red carpet encounters a couple of years ago and the entire internet collectively praying for it. So you can imagine the expectations. Which they both would have been acutely aware of – and not only do they meet them, they totally f-cking crush it.

The date is funny and cute, Andrew can’t stop giggling, not unlike the way he was on the carpet at the Golden Globes with Amelia back in 2022 and full credit to Amelia, it wasn’t a complete joke the whole way through; she led Andrew to some insightful answers, especially when they were talking about the Oscars, and his admission that it does mean a lot to him, that he “needed” it, to be nominated, and of course he would really like to win one. Many in his position would be too embarrassed to say it out loud, to put in terms of “need”. It’s a beautifully candid moment, and much of that has to do with the energy that Amelia brings to the setting. She’s doing a bit, no doubt, but there’s also space for kindness.

As for whether or not there could really be something there, given their undeniable chemistry, and the fact that he’s single now… so many celebrities would run from this kind of attention, knowing how invested people are online about these two. So I appreciate that he’s not running from the fan service. But could it actually turn into romance? This is the storyline that has been prewritten on social media, it could be a fan fiction to reality storyline for the ages. The new Twilight, Bella and Edward, Kristen and Rob, for these times.

We're talking about this on The Squawk.  (App link here)
