Taron Egerton gets back together with his girlfriend

Taron Egerton was at a BAFTA event last night joined by Emily Thomas, his girlfriend. They broke up some time last year but, obviously, are back together. As the older generation would say, this is quite a handsome couple. Some of these shots are like prom portraits, which feels about right. 

BAFTA parties are high profile. You’re not taking someone to a BAFTA party and posing like it’s prom night if it’s not serious. Which sounds about right. There’s no going back when you get back together. If you’re making that decision, it’s an accelerant. 

So he’s not gay. I’m saying this because the last time I posted about Taron back in November it was about whether or not he’s gay because of a comment he made on Instagram about one of his friends and a comment he liked about the photo, prompting some people in the gay community to wonder whether or not he’s gay, especially since he’d just wrapped on the Elton John biopic, Rocketman.  

Shortly after that, Taron was asked about the Instagram comments on a radio show. Per W: 

Egerton has now given an official answer, telling Radio Times per Metro, “One of the lads was at my London flat and I Instagrammed a picture of him and said ‘Look at this cutie’, and a million outlets reported I was coming out as gay...I’m not gay but two of my mates came out when I was 15 and it was a joy to support them because, as a group, we are all secure in who we are.”

His comment about his friend being a "cutie" wasn't a joke, though, as he explained. "I’m certainly not going to stop calling my mates cuties and gorgeous, because they are cuties and they are gorgeous," he said.

That’s a good answer, right? 

Rocketman opens in May. I wonder if they’re going to take it to Cannes. I wonder if there will be comparisons between Taron’s performance and Rami Malek’s performance. I wonder if, should Taron’s performance be as outstanding as it’s been hyped to be, whether or not Rami’s Oscar run will help or hurt his Oscar run next year. 

A teaser for Rocketman was released in October – see below. They should be releasing another one any time now. I really look forward to seeing Taron make out with Richard Madden. Taron said he “loved every second” of filming it.
