Get spooky and horny with Yaga

Sure enough, as Comic-Con got going over the weekend, new footage being released died instantly, with one notable exception. Crave and AMC+ released the teaser for Yaga, the upcoming mystery/thriller series starring Carrie-Anne Moss, Noah Reid, Clark Backo (Letterkenny’s one and only Rosie, a great gal), and a post-Heated Rivalry Hudson Williams.

Williams was not present at Comic-Con, but he did send a video saying he wishes he was there, which I do not believe because we’ve all seen the fun he was having in Greece and then Korea. If the choice is between going to a work event or partying in Greece and being welcomed in Korea, I know which one I’m choosing!

Anyway, back to Yaga. I am getting strong Twin Peaks vibes, from the combination of a dead body on a beach and supernatural, spooky forest stuff happening around it. The teaser features Moss narrating the different facets of the legend of Baba Yaga, in this case not a code name for John Wick—who has totally hijacked the folklore in pop culture—but the Slavic witch/creature who will either curse you or help you, but maybe her help will feel like a curse anyway. Yaga is based on Kat Sandler’s play of the same name, and Sandler is also the series’ showrunner.

Yaga looks spooky and horny—Hudson Williams really leaning into typecasting, lol—but it’s also coming in October, when a good mystery hits just right. If Yaga is as good as it looks, this could be the spooky season show some of us crave at that time of year. I will undoubtedly re-watch Widow’s Bay come October, but having a new mystery to unravel would be good, too. Spooky with a side of horny might be just what the witch doctor ordered, and maybe it will tide us over until Heated Rivalry season two arrives in 2027, too. I have a feeling we’re going to be completely feral by the time HR episode 201 rolls around.
