Tom Holland on his wife and his tenure

Before we get to the ooey gooey, let’s talk about where Tom Holland is right now, metaphorically. As Telemachus in The Odyssey, he’s just given the best we’ve seen of his career so far. Which means I vehemently disagree with Variety’s cast and character ranking of the film’s performances and I’m not sure an exercise like this applies to this particular film because, seriously, IMO everyone is bringing it.

But this is about Tom and Telemachus and taking on a role where he was never going to be the hero or even the anti-hero, in theatres two weeks before he steps back into the suit as a hero, Spider-Man Peter Parker of course. It’s an interesting juxtaposition, with some connective tissue throughout. After all, both are trying to find their purpose in life, and in both cases, much of their struggles relate back to a missing parental figure – Odysseus for Telemachus and Tony Stark for Peter.

For Peter though, that was two movies ago, we find him alone again now in a different way, since his sacrifice to save the world resulted in becoming disappeared from the lives and memories of his loved ones. That’s a key reason to his popularity as Spider-Man: Tom Holland really plays the pathos so well, beyond the stunts and all the comic book lore, this is where the heart of the story is.

But that question lingers – how much longer will he do this, how much longer can he do it, where does the story run out on Tom and Spider-Man? He was asked about this on the junket recently and, as far as I’ve seen, not being a comic book savant, he gave the best possible answer.

What he’s saying is that he takes being a steward for Spider-Man very seriously, and his ultimate act as a steward is to hand the character off to Miles Morales. Even I know about the fandom’s anticipation for Miles Morales and the fact that this is Tom’s hope for the future of Spider-Man, given his not insignificant influence behind the scenes, is something to be optimistic about.

But also it’s just so cute that the three of them, Tom, Zendaya, and Jacob Batalon are like, all for one and one for all. My babies!

And then of course there’s a fluffy moment that’s going viral from Tom’s appearance on The Dish.

He and Zendaya have tried to avoid any and all talk/speculation about their marriage… but at the same time, Tom has a reputation for, well, not being able to keep secrets. Is it a secret anymore though? How much more confirmation do we need?

This, to me, isn’t about him spilling the tea, it’s more about being in that state of newlywed bliss, when you’ve found your person and you know you’re their person too, and you formally declare your commitment to each other and it’s impossible to contain your happiness, your contentment, really. And besides, Tom’s never been able to contain his affection/adoration/fanboy/admiration … all of the things… for his WIFE. He doesn’t have to say it, we can all see it. All the time, whenever they are out in public together, a feeling captured by this viral video from Mexico earlier this week.
