The Gotham TV Awards took place last night in New York, and it was always going to be a well-attended event but also, Emmy nominations voting starts in just over a week, which means that the Gothams are also a campaign stop for many contenders who are in the race this season. And we have some developments coming out of the Gothams that could have an impact in certain categories.

Most notably, Chase Infiniti won the Gotham for Outstanding Lead Performance in a Drama Series for her performance in The Testaments, and the reason this is interesting is because Rhea Seahorn was also nominated for Pluribus. Rhea has been considered the frontrunner for the Emmy – she won the Golden Globe back in January, and she was expected to win the SAG but Keri Russell ended up with the trophy that night. Keri, by the way, is also in contention in this category for the Emmy. So with Chase winning at the Gothams the race feels very unpredictable, which is what we want. What we do know, however, is that Chase’s chances at a nomination are looking better and better. And, again, it’s a baller way for her to follow-up her breakout success in One Battle After Another. Chase was wearing custom Louis Vuitton. It’s always custom for Chase, and nobody had heard of her a year ago!

While Chase’s chances are climbing, Zendaya’s might be going in the opposite direction, not that she would care. It’s been obvious from the jump that Zendaya has put Euphoria behind her – it’s just a matter of if the Television Academy has also gone cold on the series in general. And if that’s the case, it opens the door for someone else to get nominated: possibly Michelle Pfeiffer for her work in The Madison? Michelle received a Tribute Award at the Gothams last night and was there as a nominee for Margot’s Got Money Troubles but her attendance also serves her campaign. She’s definitely a possibility, especially if Euphoria doesn’t pop for Emmy voters the way it was supposed to before season three premiered.

In the limited series category, the current frontrunner is Love Story: John F Kennedy and Carolyn Bessette, and several members of that cast were there to represent. Sarah Pidgeon is said to be a frontrunner for Best Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie while Paul Anthony Kelly has a shot for a Best Actor Limited nomination, though I can’t see him winning over Oscar Isaac in Beef or Matthew Rhys is The Beast in Me, especially since there are so many people who are obsessed with him in Widow’s Bay, currently airing, and he could very well wake up on Emmy nomination morning with two nominations, one for each series.

But in the limited category there’s also DTF: St Louis, which was came away with a couple of Gothams last night, including one for David Harbour, so right now, Love Story isn’t running away with it, though it will likely get several nominations – including, hopefully, one for Constance Zimmer. I’ll say it until I’m blue in the face, just like her dress, she was the best part of that show!
