WSJ. features Kylie Jenner in its annual Innovators issue this year and the event was held in New York last night. Kylie’s award was presented by Haider Ackermann who, of course, has a longstanding relationship with Timothée Chalamet. And now Kylie and Timmy are dating. Timmy was at the event, too, and while his official purpose was to present to Martin Scorsese, it’s an added bonus that his gf was also being honoured at the gala.
A quick note, though, about Timmy because please note one of his remarks on stage while presenting to Marty:
“Marty and I worked together for the first this year – not on the sprawling epic American western Killers of the Flower Moon… I am in a commercial he directed for Chanel.”
Um, excuse me, sorry sorry sorry, but Timmy is a member of SAG-AFTRA. This isn’t direct scabbing but, come ON, it’s mentioning a film currently in theatres from a struck company… seriously?! The skirting with the technicalities right now, as Sarah wrote yesterday, from some of the biggest names in the business, is bullsh-t. And for Timmy in this situation, he seemed to be more concerned about sucking up to Marty than adhering to the spirit of advocating for those in the profession who aren’t getting big studio deals and brand partnerships from all that big studio screen time.
But nobody is paying attention to this of course because he and Kylie being at the same event together is the bigger story. Timmy and Kylie didn’t walk together but they did sit together inside:
These two are good for gossip, I have no complaints. I do have questions though, not about their relationship, because at this point I think it’s pretty obvious they are in a relationship, but about her new clothing line, Khy, which she announced in the WSJ. profile. Kylie tells WSJ. that Khy is “really inspired by my personal wardrobe, and the different moods that I’m in.” And that the mood of the first drop is “King Kylie – who I am at my core”.
I mean, sure, I get why after the success of her cosmetics line, there would be interest in making even more money but … like… what IS Kylie's style? It’s not that I don’t think Kylie looks good in clothes, of course she does. But like the rest of her family, I don’t associate her with fashion, I don’t identify her with a distinct, signature aesthetic. I barely remember what she wears, even though, again, she looks great, and she looked great last night. But it won’t register with me the way others do – like Timmy does, for example! – so as she as moves into fashion, I’m curious to see whether or not her style will actually define itself. Because right now, I don’t see it.
We're talking about this on The Squawk.
