This summer, there was a lot of chatter about Lizzo’s new album, Bitch, flopping. I think this tweet sums up why one-hit or one-album wonders are so overly-analyzed – early fandoms and social media. The tweet mentions the 2000s but the 80s and 90s were rife with one-hit wonders that had one banger and we just… never heard from or thought of again.

Courteney Cox and Ed Sheeran are long-time friends, he crashed in one of her cottages (yes, one of) when he was recording X. I thought they were introduced by Courteney’s (ex?) boyfriend Johnny McDaid but I looked it up and had it wrong: it was actually Ed who introduced Courteney to Johnny, not the other way around. Courteney and Ed were introduced by Bill Lawrence and Christa Miller when they all worked on Cougar Town together because Bill and Christa’s daughter was a fan of Ed’s.
Emile Hirsch was supposed to become a big movie star, the next Sean Penn after Into the Wild. In 2015 he was convicted of assault on Paramount Pictures executive Daniele Bernfeld at Sundance and yet, he continued to work but his career definitely stalled. Now he’s posting fake James Bond casting as a “joke.” What the punchline is, I do not know.
OK it turns out Nikki Glaser’s joke about the lesson Hollywood is learning from the success of Heated Rivalry (“American audiences are ready for more shows about hockey”) was actually an accurate prediction.
QVC leaning into this clip is exactly the right move. Their hosts are live TV pros, slipping a blow job in there now and again is the cost of doing business.
