Intro for October 27, 2026
Dear Gossips,
It was only a matter of time, and it was thought that the time would be this past weekend during one of his two shows at SoFi Stadium, celebrating 30 years in the business – almost, but a day later. Yesterday came the announcement that was about as anticlimactic as Noah Wyle being named PEOPLE’s Sexiest Man Alive…
Jay-Z will headline the Super Bowl halftime show that will also take place at SoFi in February.
On a marketing execution level, I like this clip. I like the tweak on the phrase, “GOAT’S OUT OF THE BAG”. And the goats are so cute, it’s very cute that there’s a kid just chilling on his lap, and “Public Service Announcement” is the perfect song choice for the moment.
Speaking of songs though…
There are, of course, some people who are excited that Jay picked Jay to perform. There are others who are less enthusiastic. And then there are those who are looking forward to it…because of possibility of guests. The first person on that anticipation list, of course, is Her Majesty, Beyoncé. By the time of the Super Bowl, the Queen will have been quiet for over a year and a half. And it will have been almost three years since the release of act ii, Cowboy Carter. We have all been patiently waiting for act iii. But we know now that for the Carters, Jay-Z’s various anniversaries and milestones were the focus in 2026, likely culminating at the Super Bowl in early 2027.
Will Beyoncé join him onstage for an assist? You know how it works, though, when it’s Beyoncé at the Super Bowl. Even when Coldplay was allegedly the headliner, as soon as she stepped onto the field, the show was hers. It’s just a question of whether or not she wants to eclipse her spouse.
And then there’s the Blue Ivy Carter who has joined her dad on stage during his concerts on the piano. The Super Bowl is a Blue + Dad tradition. She has been on the sidelines with him every year at the Super Bowl since he became involved in producing the halftime show. Will be interesting to see if Blue is a part of it, and how.
Over the course of these three decades, Jay’s collaborations have been extensive. There’s a long list of possibilities but I am telling you, if he can get Mariah Carey there and build her a section of the stage where they can plop her with a cherry picker so she just has to stand there in six inch heels and sing “Heartbreaker” before he jumps in with his verse, you will hear me screaming “pillow fight in the middle of the night” on every corner of the planet. How long has it been?!
Yours in gossip,
Lainey
