You may not know Eric Bauza to see him but I know you know his voice. Because he is the “modern voice of Looney Tunes” – performing the voices of Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Tweety, Elmer Fudd, Foghorn Leghorn, Porky Pig, Road Runner, and SOOOOO MANYYYY more.

His work is prolific, this is a huge loss to the creative community.

Eric was recently in Coyote vs Acme and had more work coming up, including another Looney Tunes musical. And one of the reasons why he was so beloved by Looney Tunes fans is because he loved Looney Tunes so much, he took the responsibility very seriously, to be the person shepherding the tradition and reaching new generations.

Eric is from Scarborough, Ontario so this is also a major loss for those of us in the Canadian creative space. As a Filipino Canadian, Eric understood what his success meant to so many people and he was also so kind with his time, so thoughtful with fans and also the media. Which is why this is hitting so hard for me personally. Here is a photo from my office corkboard – a sketch of Bugs Bunny by Eric, who drew it for me at the end of one of our interviews.

My office corkboard with a sketch of Bugs Bunny by Eric Bauza

That sketch has been living in prime position in my office for years, it’s the first thing anyone sees when they walk in here, it’s what I look up and see when I’m writing and I’m searching for a word. What I remember is what a caring and gracious ambassador he was for Looney Tunes, how deeply he understood the cultural attachment to all the characters he played, and the loving care he imbued into those performances every time he showed up.

What else happened today…

Eric was supposed to attend the premiere of The Cat in the Hat this weekend because the short film Daffy Season will play before screenings of The Cat in the Hat movie when it opens on November 6. It’s the first theatrical Looney Tunes short film in 14 years. (Go Fug Yourself)

Kayleigh Donaldson makes the case: let Parkey Posey play Katharine Hepburn! (Pajiba)

Cynthia Erivo was SO GOOD on SNL UK this weekend and I’ve watched the pussy song too many times. (Mashable)

There was a lot of noise last week about who will play the new James Bond. And now there’s a rumour about who might be a Bond girl. My vote for Bond girl is Cardi B. (Celebitchy)

What would happen to you if an evil witch placed a lesbian curse on you? Again, in my case, this is accurate: “Every time you find a television show you like, it will get canceled.” That is COLD. (Autostraddle)
