Intro for August 6, 2025

Dear Gossips,   

Last week’s surprise, come out of nowhere, possible summer romance was Katy Perry and Justin Trudeau who went for a walk and dinner and drinks in Montreal, and then the next day he showed up at her concert. 

Katy performed in Toronto last night, the first of two back-to-back shows here. Part of the entertainment for some people was whether or not they could spot him. If he was there, he wasn’t seen, which means he wasn’t there because, well, it’s not like either of them had issues with being seen. If JT does end up making an appearance at Katy’s Toronto stop, the better option would be tonight – makes more sense for logistics, getting both of them in and out right away, instead of having one day in between. For gossip’s sake, let’s hope for it but not expect it because even though Katy and JT don’t seem to mind the speculation (no one here is in a rush to deny it), nobody really knows for sure whether or not this is actually a thing or just a publicity stunt. Whether or not Montreal will be more than a standalone date remains to be seen. And the subsequent reporting about the two of them isn’t all that illuminating either. 

PEOPLE had an “exclusive” about their situationship the other day that amounted to nothing more than a hedge. 

“Justin Trudeau and Katy Perry sparked romance rumors this week with multiple outings in Montréal, and sources tell PEOPLE that something could be blossoming between the two.

One Canadian source says the pair shared an attraction, and now they are both available following Perry's recent split from Orlando Bloom.

However, the source adds that exploring their "instant connection" could have roadblocks given their busy personal and professional lives.

"They are interested in each other, but it will take a while to see where this goes,” the source says. “She is traveling around the world, and he is figuring out his life now that he is no longer prime minister of Canada, but there is an attraction. They have a lot in common.”

“Music is one of many things they can share,” the source adds, with optimism being another. "Both are idealists and still live in a world where they think they can make improvements, although it has gotten more difficult.”

“Something COULD be blossoming” is a nothingburger of an exclusive, the whole article tells me zero beyond the fact that these are two famous people who are very busy and enjoy listening to music – thanks for those specific details, PEOPLE!

Katy is touring through the US this month before heading to South America in September and then Europe in October. In November she’s in East Asia and the tour doesn’t wrap until December in Abu Dhabi. So if they want to see more of each other, he’ll probably have to go to her. And I’m not sure about the optics of Canada’s former prime minister traipsing around the world, along with his security detail, to see his girlfriend perform. Not that I’m here to dump on this gossip and spoil the fun. But if they do manage to extend this flirtation, these are the boring logistics I want to know about!
