There was a joke going around social media after Comic-Con last weekend about Avengers: Doomsday and how big the cast is but also the OG Avengers who are coming back, like Chris Evans and Hemsworth at Steve Rogers and Thor respectively. Many jokes, actually. One of them being that at this rate, they’d revive Natasha Romanoff, aka Black Widow, and Scarlett Johansson would show up by surprise – despite denying over and over again that she’s in it. Doomsday is the first Avengers movie without her. Denials mean nothing where the MCU is concerned and I don’t know if the multiverse is happening anymore, but I really can’t see Scarjo returning. Everything she has said since she wrapped up her time with the MCU has seemed so final, like she’s found closure and has moved on.

Here she is in London yesterday, on a break from shooting The Batman Part II. Production started in the spring, she was officially confirmed to the cast in May, with Matt Reeves announcing it on Twitter.

Joining Robert Pattinson this time around are Scarjo, Sebastian Stan, Brian Tyree Henry, and Charles Dance. Plus Colin Farrell, Jeffrey Wright, and Andy Serkis are coming back. But, so far, no Zoë Kravitz although you never know until you actually see the final cut.

The Batman was released four years ago, in March 2022. The Batman Part II has been rescheduled a couple of times and currently scheduled to come out February 2028 which would mean a whole six years between them. There’s been some complaining among the nerds about this. But they’re also preoccupied with the characters each actor will be playing. Most people have assumed that Sebastian is Harvey Dent. Recently there have been rumours and so-called leaks that he won’t be Harvey Dent after all.

And the same applies to Scarjo. Some were speculating that she’d be Harvey Dent’s wife, Glinda Dent. Since Matt used a shot of Scarjo from Under the Skin for that Twitter post above, and her appearance in that film resembles Glinda, that only reinforced the presumption. But, again, recent online rumours are pointing to the possibility that she might be Poison Ivy, after all, even though Matt has said that these characters won’t have been seen before. That could be a diversion or it could be that he’s only half-truthing, like a version of Poison Ivy that we haven’t seen before. Something something about a plant doctor who makes toxins…

Sorry, I could only spend so much time in the message boards before my eyes started crossing. The movie is over a year and a half away. We don’t have to do this now. And Scarjo has another project on the way that’s arriving much sooner.

Ray Gunn is one of Netflix’s bigger holiday 2026 titles. Sam Rockwell voices the title character, the last human private detective just trying to do his job among humans and aliens, one of them being Venus Nova, a popstar trying to survive a scandal.

This looks good and it’s likely getting a strong promotional push.
