Jennifer Aniston is in New York working on season four of The Morning Show. I didn’t read the caption at first and when I saw these new pap shots of her on set I actually thought she was getting oil splashed on her for real from a hater, like a crazed loser MAGA supporter mad at her for criticising JD Vance last week.
This is not what happened – they’re shooting a protest scene for the show – but I don’t think my mind was going to crazy places; this is a crazy time. And, you know, it’s not like that criminal who’s running for president didn’t incite an insurrection or anything.
Jennifer got political. And her stance last week is consistent with positions she’s stood on for a while now. Attacking the integrity and the competence of women without children is some f-cked up sh-t, pure misogyny, and as a woman without children myself, I too, like Jen, am familiar with the kinds of assumptions people make about our rights in society. Jen also took the opportunity in her callout of JD Vance to remind women that he belongs to a party that has been attacking reproductive rights and body autonomy, so there’s no doubt which way she is voting which I appreciate but it’s also interesting because of course so much of her fanbase is what I call the MiniVan Majority, many of whom do not necessarily share her views. There are a lot of white women who backed Trump in the last two elections. And there’s undoubtedly an intersection between that Minivan Majority and those voters.
Those people have been in her Instagram comments over the last few days, almost as if they’re just realising now what her views are.
Like I said earlier, she’s shared her views before, and not just once before either, but some people are either more online than others and/or they filter out information so as to maintain the image they have of their faves. It probably happens a lot in her case with a certain demographic because she’s been the poster woman for the MvM for so long.
Jennifer Aniston is deep in her 50s now, at a time when she has fewer f-cks to give. And clearly, right now, she has no f-cks to give about where she stands in this election. I wonder if there will be more of this energy as we get closer.
