The other day, in this space, I posted about Yalitza Aparicio at the TIFF Tribute Gala. Yesterday morning Yalitza was front row at the Michael Kors show in New York wearing the headband of the moment. I love it on her. And I love this dress on her. Wasn’t a fan of this material but I’ve seen it up close a few times the last couple of weeks, most recently a similar fabric on Scarlett Johansson at the Jojo Rabbit premiere on Sunday night, and in person it reads soft and flexible, molding to the body like skin and not rough like it might look. Scarjo was wearing Rodarte. Yalitza, you’ll recall, wore Rodarte to the Oscars – Kate and Laura Mulleavy were the ones who approached Yalitza to say they wanted to dress her. Yalitza was recently featured in the Rodarte 2010 Lookbook:
Sophie Lopez is Yalitza’s stylist. She also styles Kate Hudson and Yalitza and Kate were seated next to each other at the show yesterday – Yalitza’s first ever fashion show. Here’s another shot of her catching up with Nicole Kidman. Sophie’s the one sitting behind them:
Yalitza told WWD that she’s currently “in the process of speaking to a couple of directors about future projects”. Being at TIFF would have only helped that process and being visible, whether it’s at fashion week or a film festival, helps it too. And it’s the fashion industry that’s been ahead of the movie and television industry where Yalitza is concerned, recognising her star and style potential.
