There's a war going on between Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, and George Clooney. It started at the Golden Globes. One of their best jokes was about Clooney and Gravity -- how he'd rather float off into space and die than talk to a woman his own age. The entire ballroom erupted. They loved it. And George took it well.

Matt Damon was also targeted that night. Tina and Amy called him a garbage man among the real stars. He took it well too. But, given that George Clooney is the Grand Poobah of celebrity pranksters, you know he would answer.

It happened last week. George special ordered some Matt Damon letterhead. He wrote a letter as Matt to Tina and Amy about how insulted he was about the garbage man thing:

"Look, it sounds hypocritical because I laughed at jokes about George and Leo, but that's sort of what people think about them. But when you call me a garbage man it just seems like low-hanging fruit. It seems like an easy joke. I don't want an apology or anything else. I just want you to know that my kid now calls me 'the garbage man'."

Damon told Letterman last night that Tina and Amy followed up with two fruit baskets and two letters of their own delivered to his house. The first letter:

"I thought you of all people could take a joke. We're both really sorry."

The second letter:

“Dear Matt,

If your note is part of some George Clooney prank, as I very strongly suspect it is, you A-list amateurs are gonna have to step it the f-ck up. We are not some easily confused starlets you're dealing with here. We are grown-ass professional comedians. Please accept this fruit as a token of our sincerity.
Best wishes,
Elizabeth Tina Fey and Amy Boston Poehler”

The video is the best. You have to watch this. Matt is so great. The way he calls George a child. “Who has the time???” Well. George has the time. He has the time to look at Justin Bieber biting titty shots on the internet and creep on Kanye West’s fiancee’s Instagram, I’m sure he does.

Anyway, here are George and Matt out in New York yesterday continuing to promote The Monuments Men which opens today. Jacek asked me last night what it was about. I described it as the true story of Oceans Eleven only Terry Benedict is Hitler.

Matt Damon is wearing the Dakota Plain Crepe Toe boot in Black by The Frye Company.
