PBS has decided to suspend the third season of Finding Your Roots as the result of an internal investigation…

Whatever.

Basically PBS has suspended the third season of Finding Your Roots because of Ben Affleck. You’ll recall, once he learned that some of his ancestors were slave owners, Ben asked the show to censor their findings. In the end, that part of his history was not revealed on the episode and it wasn’t until the Sony emails were leaked that it became public.

Ben then posted a weak ass apology (more like a defence of himself, really) on Facebook. Click here for a refresher on the entire situation. According to the NYT

In the investigation, PBS said that producers violated network standards by letting Mr. Affleck have “improper influence” and “by failing to inform PBS or WNET of Mr. Affleck’s efforts to affect program content.”

There’s your celebrity entitlement at work. And the f-cking hypocrisy at work too. Because they’ll bitch incessantly about how much it sucks to be famous until they can use that fame and the influence and power that comes with the fame to engineer a favourable outcome – the kind of outcome that civilians certainly don’t get the luxury of enjoying. So out of one side of his mouth, Ben Affleck’s all like, yeah, I’m participating on this show on PBS because it’s legit journalism and learning and information and out of the other side of his mouth, he’s like, yeah but give me some special treatment the way they do on Access Hollywood because, um, I’m all about integrity. No doubt, Ben Affleck. No one has more integrity than you.

So what does this mean? It means he’s even more f-cked if he bails on The Perfect American Mother and Wife.
