TIFF just made its first lineup for this year’s festival. Jean-Marc Vallee’s Demolition, starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Naomi Watts, is the opening night gala. Jake, as you know, could be a contender for his performance in Southpaw. His Southpaw co-star, Rachel McAdams, will be at TIFF too. The film is called Spotlight. Also starring everyone’s boyfriend, Mark Ruffalo. I have decided that Mark Ruffalo is officially a dealbreaker for me. If you don’t love him, I can’t trust you.

So Rachel’s coming home for TIFF. And it’s a been a great year for her so far. Especially since, for the sh-t that True Detective Season 2 has taken (deservedly), she’s the one who no one has been sh—tting on. Because she’s terrific on the show. She’s making the show. When I have to sit through Vince Vaughn giving me “blue balls” dialogue (Jesus Christ, the dialogue!), it’s Rachel who comes in the next scenes and makes me feel better about spending an hour of my Sunday night on this desperation.

By the time she gets to TIFF though, will Rachel be a member of the Marvel family? She confirmed to the LA Times the other day that she is indeed being considered for a role in Doctor Strange. Sarah wrote about this a couple of weeks ago – click here for a refresher – and at the time it was just rumours. Rachel explained that it’s “still super-early days, and I don’t know where that’s gonna go, if it’s gonna go anywhere at all” but for her to put that out there, this early in the negotiations, it must be a thing. And they must want her if she’s balls enough to be talking about it when everyone knows Marvel doesn’t like anyone talking about it until they’re ready to talk about it. For years we’ve been talking about Rachel McAdams going to the next level. It feels like Rachel herself is now ready for the next level.

Here she is in all black in New York the other day. She’s really taking it to the next level in style lately too.
