Jack Black is theme dressing too
Not exactly the celebrity who’d come to mind first if you’re thinking about the stars theme dressing for appearances during a movie press tour but it does make sense that Jack Black would do it, because he’s never been against a stunt, and there’s not that much effort involved here. He put on a t-shirt, LOL. It just happens to be a snake print t-shirt and he’s promoting the new Anaconda movie today in London with Paul Rudd.
There’s actually been more than one snake print top. Jack and Paul also wore matching and obnoxious fire snake sets for the junket – it looks like what you’d see on one of those energy drink cans, LOL.
And he wore a dark red snake print shirt on Late Night with Seth Meyers this week.
The interview is GREAT. Because Jack Black is a f-cking entertainer. He’s never going to show up and bore you, and as he tells Seth, he really only knows one speed, whether it’s when he’s hosting SNL or acting in a movie or doing interviews to promote that movie. As you’ll see, if you haven’t watched it yet, Jack goes everywhere during the conversation and even manages to strike exactly the right tone when remembering Rob Reiner.
There would be no Tenacious D or School of Rock without Rob Reiner and This is Spinal Tap. Jack segues perfectly into his tribute, making it clear that some of his own best-loved work was inspired by Rob Reiner’s work. It’s respectful and it’s tasteful, unlike so much of the sh-t that’s been out there the last few days.
As for Anaconda, it opens Christmas Day and I’ve not seen any reviews yet and it’s the kind of movie that, well, I’m sure there will be some people dumping on it. Reddit is probably already dumping on it because that’s what Reddit does. The Christmas box office will likely belong to Avatar: Fire and Ash but the studio’s decision to release Anaconda, a meta parody honouring of the original, at the same time tells you something about how much confidence they have in the draw of Jack Black.
Does Jack Black get enough credit as a legitimate box office king? Think of all the movies he’s done and how much money they’ve made, all the franchises he’s part of. Kung Fu Panda, Super Mario Bros, Jumanji, and more recently the Minecraft movie which blew the doors off expectations earlier this year. Speaking of Jumanji, they’re working on another one, production just started last month and it’s expected in theatres a year from now. The point is Jack Black is a movie star, and he’s known to older generations and the demographic that everyone is chasing, Gen Z and younger. Jack Black appeals to kids, their parents, and their grandparents, and he is probably, by pop culture standards, extremely underrated.
What else happened today…
Steve Zahn is also in Anaconda and I have loved him ever since Reality Bites and he is also extremely underrated for his performance in the first season of The White Lotus. Steve is addressing the rumours that he could have been Walter White in Breaking Bad. I look forward to seeing him kill it in Anaconda. Yes, if it wasn’t already clear, I am watching the f-ck out of it in sweatpants and greasy hair on Boxing Day. (Pajiba)
Rhea Seehorn is so pretty in pink and rose gold. And does anyone else think she looks like Claire Danes? I’m sure I’m not the first person to say this. (Go Fug Yourself)
I will read anything by Allison P Davis even when I don’t care about the subject because her writing makes me care about whatever she cares about but her latest piece is something I’ve cared about forever: romance and yearning, and why adults responded so f-cking hard this year to The Summer I Turned Pretty and Heated Rivalry. (The Cut)
Prince Harry played snow-polo in Aspen and he’s probably home in Montecito by now but if the Sussexes ever spent an Aspen Christmas, I’d love to see a shot of them on the slopes with Mimi. (Celebitchy)
I’ve never given this much thought but I’m glad that Miles Surrey just put this thought in my head: when movie stars look like their directors. (The Ringer)
