Simu’s Easter egg?
Simu Liu was in New York yesterday for, among others, an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon during which he talked about Avengers: Doomsday and how mortified he was about what he was wearing when he met Robert Downey Jr.
Speaking of Avengers: Doomsday, a new trailer is expected at some point in the next few days to two weeks, and there’s apparently been a leak, with Marvel trying to pull all of them down. Sarah will have more about this, eventually, perhaps even by the end of the week. In the meantime, there’s another franchise we might have to talk about …
A couple of days ago, in a photo dump, Simu posted an interesting picture of what looks like an empty boardroom, and on the glass table there’s a book. The shot is buried in the carousel so maybe that’s why not many people have picked up on it?

That’s Sarah J Maas’s The Assassin’s Blade and it exists in the same universe as A Court of Thornes and Roses (ACOTAR). These are hugely popular book series but they’ve yet to be adapted. Hulu had been trying to adapt ACOTAR for a long time but at the beginning of this year, it was confirmed that they would no longer be moving ahead and the rights would revert back to the author who promised that she’d continue to make it happen. There have been no real updates on ACOTAR ever since… but now Simu seems to be having meetings about The Assassin’s Blade so is this some kind of hint? Is he trying to secure the rights? Will someone be asking him about this on the press tour? Heads up to my media friends who are scheduled to talk to Simu on this press tour (for The Copenhagen Test premiering on Peacock on December 27), if you want social media traffic, ASK HIM THIS QUESTION AND YOU’LL GET THE VIEWS AND THE LIKES.
What else happened today…
Yesterday in this space I linked to Ryan Reynold’s countering Quentin Tarantino’s disrespect of Matthew Lillard and putting him on the payroll and now Matthew’s fiercest defender has joined the chat: his daughter, Ace. (Pajiba)
I love these leather pants on Kate Hudson. (Go Fug Yourself)
Katie Baker on the stupidest expression of the year, “6-7”, and the impact it had on parents. Can our collective New Year’s Resolution be to never speak of this nonsense again? (The Ringer)
Angelina Jolie covers TIME France to promote Couture, in which her character is diagnosed with cancer, and also to inform readers about their health options. She also, for the first time, agreed to have her mastectomy scars photographed. “I share these scars with many women I love,” she said. (Celebitchy)
Last week I linked to a post about how the Ella McCay movie poster was going viral with people copying the pose on social media. My question is… just because it goes viral, does that translate to box office success? In this case, the answer is no. (Vulture)

Simu Liu and cast members of "The Copenhagen Test" visited The Empire State Building and Simu Liu appeared on The Tonight Show on December 15, 2025.
