Jennifer Aniston’s strategic placement

Jennifer Aniston took over smartwater’s Instagram account this week, did you see? The photos were taken inside her home. My favourite shots, obviously, are the ones with the dogs.

Jen was photographed arriving at Jimmy Kimmel Live. Knowing that paps are there every day documenting arrivals and departures, she made sure that the product was in the shot. Which she does often. And it’s why the brand has been so closely tied to her over the years.

Is that what she’s doing on the show though? Jimmy’s away this week because his son had successful heart surgery. Chris Pratt and Tracee Ellis Ross guest-hosted Monday and Tuesday. Tonight it’s Neil Patrick Harris’s turn. Am guessing that Jen will appear during NPH’s show? Or will it be tomorrow, when Melissa McCarthy hosts?

Jen spent a couple of months this fall working on the film adaptation of Dumplin’. No release date has been set. But the big project for Jen in 2018 will be the morning show scripted series she’s doing with Reese Witherspoon for Apple TV. Apple bid out several other competitors for the rights, signing on immediately to two seasons without seeing any finished scripts. This, evidently, is how aggressive they feel they need to be to be in the game with Amazon and Netflix and other streaming services.

Remember Planet Of The Apps? That was Apple’s entrepreneur-search Shark Tank equivalent featuring Gwyneth Paltrow, Will.I.Am., and Jessica Alba as the celebrity judges/mentors. Not sure if it increased the Apple TV subscriber base but I do know that nobody really talked about it. Not even when they did a Carpool Karaoke. What, you mean people didn’t want to tune in to watch Gwyneth Paltrow share her business advice?!

Apple is hoping that the Jen + Reese combination will pull in new subscribers and build momentum from there to push their television ambitions. Well, it’s about a morning show and the drama that occurs behind the scenes. It’s not like they don’t have any material to work with.
