It’s been non-stop promotion for Angelina Jolie over the last three months as we’ve seen her promote Maria the way others might promote a Marvel/Disney tentpole – only with a muuuuuuch smaller budget.

From Venice to Telluride to Toronto to New York to London and LA and, this weekend, in Italy at the Torino Film Festival. She was there to receive Stella Della Mole prize and screen Without Blood, the film she directed based on the novel by Alessandro Baricco, who was with her at the ceremony.

Not sure how long she’ll be staying in Europe and if she’ll squeeze in another stop, maybe Paris?, but she’ll likely be in New York immediately after the American Thanksgiving weekend for the Gotham Awards on December 2 where she’ll be honoured with the Performer Tribute. And then all the other nominations will start coming in. A Golden Globe nomination seems likely. This is always the award show that aims to put as many stars in the ballroom as possible. It’s also the first major televised award show of the year, happening on Sunday 5 January…and this is not that far away.

In the meantime, let’s talk about the look. She had on a gorgeous camel coat in Torino, possibly the best camel coat we’ve seen all season so far. Nothing remarkable about the black top and skirt underneath it but I do find her choice in footwear rather curious. Ballet flats? It almost looks like a backup plan, like what she scrounged around in her bag and found after a heel broke, or a strap came off the original shoe that was meant to go with this outfit. And the flats themselves are so spare, so subdued, not leather or patent, and with so little embellishment, they come off almost like… socks/slippers. Like, I’m all about casual and comfort but if that was the case, a sneaker would have worked better. Then again, come to think of it, I can’t remember the last time I saw Angelina Jolie in sneakers. Does she own sneakers?
