Dear Gossips,

Less than a week to go now until the Met Gala. Which means we have less than a week to go before we find out if Beyoncé might - or not - be dropping any kind of act iii news at the Met Gala.

Her Beyjesty is, of course, one of the co-chairs this year and it’s not like she owes Anna Wintour or the Costume Institute any favours. Beyoncé hasn’t been to the Met Gala in a decade, not since 2016. It’s possible she just wants to put on a crazy ass dress and party for the night, sure. But it’s also possible that she’s ready to take over the timeline again. The Queen of All Culture has been quiet for so long although her publicist, Yvette Noel-Schure is denying that Beyoncé has anything planned, although some fans have pointed out that she’s debunked before and… then the rumours ended up being true so people will still keep hoping/believing/rumouring.

Quiet because she’s been working on whatever it is that she might announce, or quiet because she wants to add to the impact of whatever she’ll be wearing? The last time Beyoncé was at the Met Gala, she was in Givenchy, by Riccardo Tisci. In fact, B wore Givenchy for five straight years to the Met Gala, right up to her last appearance. Now that the house is under the creative direction of Sarah Burton, will Beyoncé be returning to Givenchy on the red steps?

Probably not, according to speculation. Saint Laurent is the fashion sponsor of the event this year with creative director Anthony Vaccarello serving as one of the co-chairs alongside Beyoncé, Nicole Kidman, and Venus Williams. Co-chairs are often dressed by the fashion sponsor, and yesterday Beyoncé posted a photo of herself wearing Saint Laurent to celebrate the ten year anniversary of Lemonade – a purple dress that many clocked to be similar to the mustard yellow (Roberto Cavalli) one she wore in the “Hold Up” video.

Are the Saint Laurent ruffles just a preview of what we’re about to see next Monday, or a callback to one of her (many) most iconic looks?

Obviously the marquee outfit for Beyoncé over the next week will be on Monday night at the Met Gala proper. But the Met Gala tradition is for co-chairs to attend Anna Wintour’s pre-event dinner that she hosts at her place the night before. If she goes (because if there’s anyone who doesn’t have to adhere to tradition it’s Beyoncé), that’s another look to look out for.

Yours in gossip,

Lainey
