Two of the biggest celebrity power couples were at the World Cup final yesterday. We should always start with Beyoncé, who actually allowed herself to be photographed while arriving with Jay-Z. We’ll come back to her outfit in a minute. They’ve been in New York for a while now as Jay’s been celebrating the anniversaries of Reasonable Doubt and The Blueprint with his three-show residency at Yankee Stadium last weekend.

I wonder too if Jay was at the World Cup final to do more than just watch the match. As we know, he also produces the Super Bowl halftime show which is what the first-ever World Cup halftime show was based on. Two artists who’ve been speculated about as the headliners for the next Super Bowl halftime show performed yesterday and it could have been an opportunity for Jay to consider the selection? This is me just speculating but it is true that both Justin Bieber and BTS have come up often on the list. Not sure if their appearances at the World Cup might affect that since it takes the surprise away but, at the same time, their performances were so brief it might have increased anticipation over what a full halftime performance might look like from either artist.

JB’s Coachella set and his World Cup song were much more chill than what we’d normally expect out of a bombastic Super Bowl show. That seems to be his creative mood right now so while he would definitely be a draw, a good get for the NFL, that would be my question – whether or not he’d even be interested in doing the kind of fireworks bombastic big party sh-t that’s almost a requirement for that performance.

BTS, on the other hand, has been blowing the roof off of stadiums, among the biggest in the world, over the last few months. Bangtan has the kind of bangers that would meet the Super Bowl halftime expectation, and the 2027 Super Bowl is happening at SoFi Stadium, where they have sold out four nights in early September. It was at SoFi back in 2021 when they made their return to live performance for four shows shortly after the venue opened, breaking sales records at that time. For them, then, if the invitation really came in, there is a spiritual connection here, plus the fact that Los Angeles has the biggest Korean population outside of Korea.

The issue, though, might be scheduling since right now BTS is set to play five shows in Australia right before the Super Bowl. That said, last year Bad Bunny rescheduled a few shows South America to account for the Benito Bowl and that worked out fine with enough notice so it’s not impossible. A precedent is there. If BTS really is in the running, it would be wild if they announced it when they’re on tour at SoFi in September.

Let’s get to the other power couple at the World Cup final: Rihanna and Rocky.

Also newlyweds Dua Lipa and Callum Turner who ended up crashing a random birthday party after the match and joined in for the song.

And Matt and Luciana Damon who is Argentinian. Sorry not sorry to her, although she looks great in that bucket hat. But definitely sorry to Matt who was misidentified as Brad Pitt on one of the broadcasts LOLOLOL.

Also Timothée Chalamet and Kylie Jenner. He delivered the game ball in Adidas, likely part of the deal when he did that short film for the brand ahead of the tournament. I know he’s a villain now but for him, that must have been a sweet benefit, on top of the cash, to negotiate, another bragging right as a sports fan from New York.

As for Kylie, here’s where we get to the fashion. Because she’s in one of the biggest pants trends of the summer: capris. So was Beyoncé, which makes it two in a row for B because last week at Jay’s show she also wore capris on night one.

One night three, Rihanna also wore capris when she joined Jay on stage.

You will note, yesterday at the World Cup final, RiRi was in cropped pants again. The cropped pants mood will likely extend into fall, they’re all over the place, including on my rack at work. I tried on several pairs at my fitting last week before I left for holiday.

Capris were big in the 2000s and one of the more popular brands from that era was Mavi. I had several pairs of Mavi jeans in rotation at the time and right now they have a pair of black capris like the pair Kylie is wearing. They also come in medium wash but sold out, which tells you how many people are fully bought into this length right now.

Reformation has several cropped options right now. I tried on the Jill Cropped Knit Pant one size up from my usual and really liked how it felt through the hips. But I also LOVED the Gale Satin Mid Rise Capri Pant for a more relaxed fit and these are definitely going to be in rotation when the weather is cooler, under a loose sweater or a blazer. This is how to do the trend without going all in on it.

Massimo Dutti’s Slim Fit Capri is also a looser fit and lightweight and will get you a lot of wear through the fall.

The Elodie the Label Ivone Capri is a good option too, pull-on but with the slits on the sides it reads like a proper pant and not a legging.

The ME+EM Slim Crop Trouser is more of a straight leg, looks like a proper trouser but they’re elastic waistband, my favourite feature. And they land perfectly an inch above ankle on me. These are classics, they’re on trend, but also evergreen, so they’ll work in your wardrobe as long as you can keep them in good shape. Plus they look so good over a loafer.

If you’re looking for something other than black – I was just in Paris so Sézane is top of mind and I actually tried on the Ciara Trousers in store. These are giving Emma Stone in the Les Jeunes de Paris sketch on SNL. Yes, they also come in black but the black and white gingham is adorable. The only reason I didn’t get them, honestly, is because I was so f-cking hot I didn’t want to stand in line to pay and now I regret it.

But, like I said, the capris are everywhere. The Babaton Carmen Capri is still available in black with a slight flare at the helm that is super chic and all the fashion girlies are wearing this with a kitten heel (gross) but they also work very well over a sneaker (correct).

The most affordable option is the Dynamite Liv Capri at $65. They’re nice and stretchy but will hold shape, and comfortable at the waist.

And finally… a true throwback because I’m pretty sure I had this exact pair from Gap in 2002 and wore the sh-t out of them, and now the Low Rise Capri is back and on sale for $55.
