New York Galas, continued

Meanwhile, also in New York last night, the second of the double-header galas happened at the WSJ Innovator Awards. Sometimes I feel like these gala names are just word salad. You wanted to have a party! That’s okay! I will applaud the first group to name their gala The Party Party. Anyway, A$AP Rocky showed up with a Chanel acorn bag from the Metiers d’Art collection:

Rosalía certainly should be dubbed an innovator, for the way she blends styles and genre and dance and performance and song and motion and ballet and theater and everything that is art in her music. I do not, however, love the bodice of this dress:

I would like to know if she spoke to Patti Smith, though. If I could eavesdrop on a conversation, it would be the one between Patti Smith and Rosalía:

Emmy Rossum is gearing up for domination as we approach the Golden Globes and Critics Choice Awards, where Furious will be eligible. She turned up with big hair. Her styling is so vivacious for an all-black dress.

Lupita Nyong’o also opted for all black, paired with a red lip. She is also getting ready for awards season, though her odds are longer than those for her co-star Anne Hathaway. Even playing a dual role in The Odyssey, Lupita doesn’t have enough screen time to defeat Annie’s theatrics.

And then there were a bunch of couples, starting with Russell Wilson and Ciara engaging in Lainey’s most favorite pastime, belly cupping. Ciara is pregnant with their fourth child (her fifth).

Seth Meyers made it date night with his wife, Alexi Ashe Meyers:

He went on the podcast Smart Girl Dumb Questions and talked about becoming a wife guy, which is very cute. If this relationship ever goes bust, the online melt down will make the crisis over John Mulaney’s divorce look like a relaxing day at the spa. Truly, the Meyers—Meyerses?—can never break up. We simply do not have the bandwidth to process it.

And then there was Amy Poehler and her squeeze, Joel Lovell.

Lovell is a former New York Times editor turned podcast producer, which is pretty much the entire state of legacy media in one career arc. He and Poehler have been red carpet official since early 2025, but they don’t make a ton of appearances. She looks really happy. It’s cute.
