MC just wrote yesterday about Dua Lipa and the anticipation for her fourth album, expected in 2027. Shortly after she posted a photo dump, and there was another shot of the recording studio in the carousel (slide 8), so it’s not a secret that she’s been working on music, and has been for months now. It’s just a matter of when the album cycle will officially begin, how late into next year we’ll be getting a sense of what the new tracks might look like.

You’ll note, though, that among those photos, while of course she’s focusing on the music, she has also, consistently, been focusing on Service95, her book club. Dua is the guest curator for the London Literature Festival which runs until November 1, and when her husband Callum Turner was reportedly in London last week for the final round of Bond screen testing, she was there moderating conversations as part of the festival with Zadie Smith and Mustafa the Poet, among others.

Dua isn’t the only celebrity with a book club but she might be one of the more active celebrities with her book club. She has put energy and effort into staffing Service95 with resources so that the book conversations can continue. And she’s a constant presence – she doesn’t just periodically show up, she’s all over the Service95 channels, engaging with authors and readers. Dua Lipa is a book nerd, a person who is constantly reading, and reading by the way is how she and Callum sparked, when they discovered they were reading the same book when they first met.

I will always love this about her, that she loves reading so much, and especially now because there is a literacy crisis, especially in the United States. Since The Atlantic’s piece on “The End of Reading” back in the summer, multiple new reports have been released, as recently as this week, about how young people aren’t reading as much as previous generations and the impact that will have on critical thinking. Dua Lipa is one of Gen Z’s biggest popstars and so much of her online output is books and reading related. This is not to say that all of her followers are reading all of the books she’s recommending but I appreciate that she’s part of the effort.

Dua was out in New York last night at the WSJ Innovator Awards and, along with A$AP Rocky, presented to Chanel creative director Matthieu Blazy. Both of them are Chanel ambassadors. Naturally Dua was in Chanel.

This set is exquisite – a recognisable Chanel skirt suit on the haute couture end, and dramatic AF with the hat and the severe black fringed trim. Also, I don’t typically love an ankle accessory but she can pull off the pearl double strand that extra pops against the black satin heel. In my opinion, this is excellent styling.

About the Chanel code though…or a classic tweed or bouclé situation – we’re in the season for it and I’ve been wearing a lot of it on ETALK. Just yesterday in fact. This look never goes out of style, and there are tweed/bouclé options at the high, mid, and low range options all over my rack right now to be rolled out right through the holidays.

The Veronica Beard Keziah Metallic Lady Jacket for example is in brown, the colour of the year, but with hints of gold in the weaving so it’s subtly festive – you can wear it to work and also to a holiday party. We paired it in the fitting with a skirt, so good. And, again, both will always been on trend.

The Tory Burch Kendra Tweed Cardigan has been very popular which is why they’re low on sizes, because it’s a classic. It looks really good over a pair of jeans, and I also added a white turtleneck underneath as a possible outfit for an upcoming interview.

If there’s a Canadian brand you can always trust with for a good blazer, it’s Smythe. And their Long Sleeve Mini Jacket is a beauty. Houndstooth, cropped, a gorgeously frayed hem, I love this piece, and I love it over a black pleated skirt with mary-janes that can take you from a meeting at the office followed by dinner after work.

Simon’s has a solid houndstooth option right now too. The Golden accents tweed blazer comes in two colourways, I wore it in blue for a virtual interview last week and the colour really pops. This one also looks good with a pair of jeans.

H&M is one of two brands showing up the most on my rack lately in tweed and bouclé because there are so many cute pieces. Like this Bouclé-Weave Jacket with Stand-Up Collar in mustard plaid, roomy enough to wear over a white shirt like it’s styled in the photo, and over a pair of black trousers.

And the Oversized Bouclé-Knit Jacket that I did not want to take off after I wore it because it wears like a sweatshirt off the body and slouches perfectly over any pair of jeans. And it’s under $60.

Also the Bouclé-Weave Button-Front Dress which I haven’t worn yet but I squealed when I tried it on. The dress looks great on its own, and again we’re operating in classic, evergreen always stylish territory with these pieces, but what I like most about it is that it’s cut slightly on the boxier side so you can wear it open, or half-open, like a jacket, or you can wear it over another skirt – in my case I’m throwing it over a slinky sheer maxi skirt with the buttons closed for a more cocktail vibe. And that price point, at $109, is outstanding for a jacket-skirt piece that you’ll wear over and over.

The other brand that’s doing a lot of strong tweed/bouclé is Zara. These are the three Zara pieces currently on my rack, waiting to be put in rotation. The Textured Fringe Blazer comes in a pink/peach weave that you can wear all year. It looks great over a slip dress.

This ZW Collection Textured Bomber though… it’s all of my favourites. The fit of a bomber, but a cross between a sweater and a blazer, with all those blended colours, and fringe. I like this so much I might keep it.

But this is the look I’m the most obsessed with and I can’t wait to wear it but I want to save it for maximum exposure because it’s so f-cking good. The Structured Plaid Coat in navy and red and yellow and green is exceptional. Note the frayed collar and hem and the length, the best length. She’s tailored but she’s not tight. And she comes with a matching skirt! I wore the jacket and the skirt for the fitting over a pair of yellow knee-high boots and I want it to be my uniform. Both pieces together are under $250 but the set looks much more expensive and it’s a decent cost-per-wear considering you can separate them with so many other options. The jacket goes over jeans, it can be worn on its own with tights, or another maxi skirt. And the skirt goes under a sweater in basically every colour. Or even a hoodie, or a shorter blazer, or a t-shirt.
