I wrote about The Woman King and Viola Davis in the previous post and their Oscar ambitions. Viola will submit in the Best Actress category and we’ve been talking about how competitive it’s looking this year, even though Ana de Armas’s chances might be receding with all the criticism that Blonde has been receiving. Still, the field is pretty crowded with Michelle Yeoh staying in the conversation and Michelle Williams’s performance in The Fabelmans sure to get support from the pro-Spielberg faction of the Academy; Danielle Deadwyler has just entered the chat for her work in Till; and remember, we have to wait for Damien Chazelle’s Babylon because Margot Robbie could be a contender.
But most experts have one name at the top of the list. At this point in the season, if we had to lock in any names, I’d say they’d be Michelle Yeoh and definitely Cate Blanchett in Tár. Pretty sure you can just go ahead and expect her to be called on nomination day. Cate’s been in New York this week promoting the film and… as usual… these outfits!
The black jumpsuit with the dramatic white-trimmed sleeves that she wore to the NY Film Festival premiere last night is actually the least interesting out of all them – and it’s pretty special. But if we’re talking jumpsuits, she pulled off a diagonal striped black and silver one that’s even better.
Cate’s wearing a strong pair of black boots with that fit…but how about these red boots?
If you ask me, those red boots are probably the only reason she said yes to that blue dress – because on it’s own the blue dress is whatever. The blue dress’s job here, though, is to hang there and let the boots do the work. And they WORK. They are incredible.
But to go back to jumpsuits… there was also an orange one.
We’re looking at over five more months of this until March and the Oscars. Half a year of Cate Blanchett campaign style.
