The Rise of Fashion Doechii
What a year it’s been for Doechii. Maybe not even a year. I mean, for her, it’s been many years, of course, making music, hustling, but this is a tough business and oftentimes even the most talented don’t break the way they hope to. In Doechii’s case, “What It Is (Block Boy)” was released almost exactly two years ago and even though that song was everywhere, and certainly was a factor in her ascent, it was still a year or a bit more before she opened up a new level in the fame game.
Now she’s a Grammy winner, everyone wants to collaborate with her, it’s hit after hit on the charts – which is why her song, “DENIAL IS A RIVER”, was the first ever track that was featured in MC’s Music Lounge back in January when we launched that weekly column.
Speaking of the Grammys though, her look was the best of the night. Actually, I should say LOOKS, plural, Thom Browne everything. Thom Browne during arrivals:

And yet another Thom Browne backstage in the press room with her trophy:

She was ready for the Met Gala and the Black Dandy theme. I can’t wait to see what she wears the first Monday in May – and there is NO doubt, if HER schedule allows, Anna Wintour will want her there. Because Doechii is fashion’s new favourite popstar, which is why she’s been taking over Paris Fashion Week.
Here she is in Valentino at the Grand Dîner du Louvre the other night:
And then killing it at Haider Ackermann’s first collection for Tom Ford:

But before that she was giving nerdy punk at Acne:

And then flexing even more range by serving boho at Chloé:
If you’re wondering if the hype is real…. oh it’s real, look at the French crowd following her around the city.
This is Doechii time. And it’s probably really, really overwhelming for her. But, right now, she’s also having fun. She seems to be staying present, open to opportunities and present in the moment. I love her. I’m thrilled to see this happening for her. And this, really, is just the beginning.
