Timothée Chalamet’s job these days is cheering the Knicks. He’s at the road games and he’s at the home games, and he’s obviously not yet prepping for Dune 3 so this is basically how he’s spending his down time. 

 

Last night the Knicks were facing elimination at MSG, a huge game and a huge win. And Timmy was joined by Kylie Jenner. She’s not with him every time he’s at the game but she’s now been with him twice and both times the Knicks won. So it’s been pointed out that, well, if the Knicks want to even up the series at 3 and bring it home for game 7…should Kylie be there? 

 

This, of course, is for the gossip. But also, sports people are superstitious. You want to ensure that all the conditions that were in place during a victory are in place to secure the next victory. As a sports fan, Timmy should not be unfamiliar with this. I wonder if he’s thinking about it. 

Back to the gossip though, Timmy and Kylie matched their outfits for the occasion – not exactly but the point was made. Here they are arriving at the Garden and look at how he’s greeted by Charles Barkley and Kenny Smith.

The reason I’m making note of this is because it highlights Timmy’s popularity across cultural quadrants. We know how the internet feels about him. We know how filmmakers feel about him. And the fashion industry. But he’s also been courting athletics. There was that whole college football cameo back in January, and now he’s auditioning for the role of Knicks mascot which…it doesn’t seem like Knicks fans are mad about it either.

Sports franchise fanbases are just as passionate/critical/obsessive as popstar fanbases. Sometimes it’s straight up unhinged. I live in a city where a recent loss was treated like a tragedy, seriously the way people were acting in the stands, on the streets, on the television, funereal tones and the most solemn delivery – I mean, to me, it was comical but they legitimately felt it in their souls. I work with someone who literally moped around for days afterwards. What I’m trying to say is that in New York, Timmy has declared himself one of them. And while I don’t doubt that this is legitimate, that he’s a New York kid and is deeply loyal to the team, reputationally as a celebrity, it definitely has its benefits. 

 

But aren’t we all winning here (with the exception of Pacers fans)? Gossip is winning whenever Timmy and Kylie show up courtside because, well, they’re putting on a show.

However you feel about these two, it’s been the same show since they started dating publicly. From their first Golden Globes to all the tennis matches and then this recent award season and now at the Knicks games, Timmy especially has consistently seemed comfortable with the cameras capturing how he feels about Kylie, despite how polarising he must know their relationship is on social media. From her perspective, and from any girl’s perspective, frankly, that must feel good. 

 

Speaking of those first Golden Globes though – it was January 2024 and it was the lipreading scandal, remember?

Timmy and Kylie were making out nearby, and Selena was gossiping with not just Taylor Swift but also Keleigh Teller. And the internet really, really wanted to believe that Selena was talking sh-t to Taylor and Keleigh about Timmy and Kylie. 

 

I bring this up because Timmy was seated next to Miles Teller at the game last night. Miles is in the green, on Timmy’s right. And on Miles’s other side is Keleigh who both had to sit there when Timmy and Kylie were all over each other. At some point Miles and Keleigh left and I haven’t seen any footage of any interactions between them – if you have, please share. Taylor of course doesn’t f-ck with Kardashian-Jenners. Keleigh, who is tight with Taylor, would likely respect that code…although it’s been a minute since we’ve seen Taylor and Keleigh out together. It’s been a minute since she’s been seen with most of the members of her girl squad. The updated and current membership status of that girl squad has been a cultural fixation for months now. If there indeed has been a shift in the starting lineup because of lawsuits and dragon whispers and some friends have been benched, I wonder who got promoted in the process. 

We’ll end on lipreading, but a much more obvious case of it. Kylie Jenner isn’t making it much of a mystery.
