Dear Gossips,
Sarah sent Emily and me a note yesterday about the upcoming sprint to the holiday break because basically for the next two weeks, there are celebrity events, premieres, galas, carpets, and/or award announcements every day which means a lot of coverage.
Take last night, for example. The Gotham Awards in New York were very well attended, with several Oscar contenders in the room. We’ll have those posts coming for you later.
But over in London it was the Fashion Awards, where A$AP Rocky was honoured with the Innovator Award and he showed up with Rihanna. This event has some significance for them. Five years ago at the Fashion Awards, in December 2019, they walked the carpet together for the first time as a couple. It was around six months after he was released from jail in Sweden. We didn’t know it at the time, but after this appearance they were pretty much inseparable.

And now, five years and two children later, they’ve returned to the Fashion Awards … in a similar colour vibe?
This is an outfit that only Rihanna could pull off, barely. It’s Cookie Monster and louche, deliberately provocative, styled close enough to how it was worn on the runway over 20 years ago in 2002.
You will note, it’s Christian Lacroix, not a brand we see often on celebrities and pulling from that archive is reserved rather exclusively for the elite of the elite. But I’ll indulge in a little Easter egging here because in February 2022, when RiRi and Rocky confirmed they were expecting their first child, and set up a photo shoot for the announcement, you’ll recall she was wearing a Lacroix cross over her bump. That whole look was a fashion dream – vintage Chanel pink puffer and belt chains, but the Lacroix crucifix was the main event:
Going back to Lacroix again … doesn’t mean anything, does it?
