In today’s previous two posts about last night's Governors Awards, Sarah posted about the 90s representation in contention for Oscars this year, and also some of the “overdue” candidates who are part of this year’s race. This post is about Oscar future, mostly those who have not yet been nominated for or won Oscars but will likely, either this year or eventually, join the club.
I say “mostly” because obviously Jennifer Lawrence already won an Oscar – eleven years ago for her performance in Silver Linings Playbook, when she was only 22 years old. Like Emma Stone who just won her second Oscar earlier this year, it’s long been assumed that JLaw will eventually add another one to her collection. It’s not an “if” but a “when”. Perhaps a nomination next year? She recently wrapped on Lynne Ramsay’s next film, Die, My Love, co-starring Robert Pattinson and LaKeith Stanfield. First look photos of the film were released last week. Heads up that the internet is not going to be normal about this.
Lynne Ramsay’s ‘DIE, MY LOVE’ is described as a portrait of a woman (Jennifer Lawrence) engulfed by love and madness.

As for JLaw’s look last night, it’s custom Bottega Veneta. That brown is gorgeous on her. Watch the video in the second frame of this carousel – this is a perfect dress on her and it’s another example of a celebrity whose style has gotten so much better after leaving Kate Young. Jamie Mizrahi has made such a different for JLaw.
Speaking of Kate Young exes… Selena Gomez, who attended with Emilia Pérez co-stars Karla Sofia Gascon and Zoe Saldana, all of whom have a shot at a nomination this year. Selena’s in Ralph Lauren, it’s lovely on her.
What’s surprising is that Zoe, in YSL, is kind of a miss? Because she’s never a miss. But this dress is so uninspiring, I feel like it might be deliberate? Like she and her team decided NOT to go so hard on this one? Zoe’s considered a frontrunner for a Supporting Actress nomination. There should be more opportunities for her to slay.
Andrew Garfield has been nominated multiple times for Oscar without a win. But he’s one of the names on the list of “it’s coming eventually” and he was on the carpet last night in blue, a tan, and lots of hair.

What I just said about Andrew also applies to Saoirse Ronan. Saoirse + Oscar feels inevitable, maybe not this year but the industry has been expecting it for a while. She and Danielle Goldberg recently started working together. Danielle also styles Ayo Edebiri and Greta Lee and her partnership with Saoirse has already shown a lot of promise. I love this mint green Louis Vuitton on her but I love even more this Celine look she wore the day before. SO good!
Adding to the list of previous nominees who will likely be invited again – Barry Keoghan in a long Dolce & Gabbana waistcoat under a cropped jacket with that white blousy bow over the chest…

…and Paul Mescal who’s hoping for another nomination for Gladiator II and between them, Paul and Barry’s shirts could be a pirate:

Finally, Jharrel Jerome and Nicholas Hoult have been delivering quality performances in a wide range of projects over the last five years. In both supporting and lead roles. They’re building solid bodies of work, but quietly. Kinda like the Jesse Plemons approach. Jharrel has already been recognised by the Emmys. Sooner or later the Oscars should take notice too.
