Movie Boss and Movie Posters
21st Century Studios (a division of Disney) sent out a press release today to announce that production has begun in New Jersey on the new Bruce Springsteen biopic, Deliver Me From Nowhere, starring Jeremy Allen White “as the visionary musician as he embarks on an emotional journey to record “Nebraska.”
Also noted in the release:
“The development of “Nebraska,” which followed Springsteen’s 1981 “The River Tour,” marked a pivotal time in his life, one that he would only openly talk about decades after its release. It’s regarded as a landmark in his musical odyssey and a source of inspiration for a generation of artists and musicians. Recorded on a 4-track recorder in Springsteen’s New Jersey bedroom and without The E Street Band, “Nebraska” is considered one of Springsteen’s most enduring works—a raw, haunted acoustic record populated by lost souls searching for a reason to believe.
Among the most recognized South Jersey natives, Springsteen maintains a huge footprint at the Jersey Shore, frequenting local shops, pizza parlors, pubs, restaurants and music venues. Filming for “Deliver Me from Nowhere” will take place primarily in locations in New Jersey and New York, with additional production in Los Angeles.”
That’s if you got that far down the email. Because the main event is the first look at JAW in character.

I don’t think that when casting was announced that there was any question that Jeremy Allen White would be able to capture the physicality of Bruce Springsteen and this image confirms it. We’ll have to wait at least several months before we get a sense of the performance. But if filming goes smoothly, they should have enough time in post to release this in time for fall festival season next year. Which means 12 months from now we could be talking about JAW’s first Oscar campaign. You know, unless of course Donald Trump is president and decides to arrest everyone in Hollywood who hates him or shut down projects by or about people who hate him. And it’s no secret how Bruce Springsteen feels about Trump.
That’s one piece of movie news that’s buzzing today. The other – two posters for Luca Guadagnino’s Queer were released today ahead of the trailer tomorrow. Queer is opening in limited release November 27 and there’s Oscar buzz around Daniel Craig’s performance. Sarah reviewed the film at TIFF last month.
Queer, based on a novella by William S Burroughs, is set in Mexico in the 1950s. The posters, however, aren’t really giving that period.

You know what this reminds me of though? The posters for Sofia Coppola’s Marie Antoinette with a slice of Call Me By Your Name. Like the anachronism. It’s pop and punk, and very much targeted to a certain audience. Film Twitter and TikTok are already losing it over the Queer marketing visual and, on top of that, Queer is an A24 film. And by now I think more and more people should be familiar with A24’s cult following and how the audience responds to its productions. So they know exactly what they’re doing here, especially given the reaction to the film coming out of Venice and Toronto, with people obsessing over the wardrobe (designed by Jonathan Anderson) and the beauty shots of these beautiful men losing themselves in lust and oblivion and, well, they’re hoping the internet will do the rest. So far, if reaction to just the poster is any indication, they’re well on their way.
