Over at The Squawk we do a weekly mailbag on Fridays, open to all levels of subscribers, where we answer questions submitted by the community. Last week a member wrote in to ask about Joshua Jackson and his new show on ABC, Doctor Odyssey, and as a fan of JJ, she said she was hoping for better for him. I used a lot of words to say in my response that… Doctor Odyssey IS better for him.
Doctor Odyssey is ABC, network television. A Ryan Murphy production, it went straight to series. A network order + Ryan Murphy + Joshua is the title character? The man is getting PAID. But also, there is so much hype. The trailer for Doctor Odyssey set a record for the most watched new broadcast TV show ever and Deadline reports that a lot of that traffic came from TikTok. So they’re getting to the demo they want. It’s now the buzziest fall television release of the season. And they’re selling the kind of television a lot of people want as we get deeper into cozy season.
Doctor Odyssey is promising sex and melodrama, outlandish medical emergencies, hot people making out, and everyone is playing it a little bit corny, intentionally. It’s Love Boat for the social media generation and it’s perfect for where Joshua is at in his career. He’s already established himself with a fanbase from a time before streaming; he’s done prestige TV on streaming; and now he’s back on network, headlining a show, #1 on the call sheet. This is the TV equivalent of being in a superhero movie. Joshua Jackson doing fine.
And he is LOOKING fine. Here he is today making the press rounds in New York and also a couple of nights ago at the premiere of Grotesquerie. Grotesquerie is also a Ryan Murphy production so it makes sense why Josh was there but it’s who he might have been there with that’s the gossip right now. He was photographed walking in and out of the event with a woman that DeuxMoi has identified as German model Nastassja Roberts.
Remember a few years ago when Josh and Jodie Turner-Smith were first together but then he was photographed kissing a “mystery woman” at the airport? The Daily Mail had those exclusive pictures at the time. Some people online are saying that Nastassja looks like that same woman. And if this really is the same woman, it probably means that Josh and Lupita Nyong’o are done. Last update I had on them was about a month ago, and it was on. But it’s looking now that it’s definitely off.
