Lewis Hamilton’s tough loss

A previous time I was editing the site I did not spotlight Lewis Hamilton when given the opportunity and someone called it out and I was like, “I don’t care about Formula 1, sorry,”, but, well, it’s a slow news day, so here is Lewis Hamilton at the F1 Dutch Grand Prix. He came in fourth, behind winner Lando Norris (McLaren), and the Mercedes duo of AK Antonelli and George Russell, respectively. Apparently, there was some controversy during the race.

F1 gets a little confusing to me with how the racing stables utilize their drivers in a race. Please, no one actually explain it to me, but in the Dutch GP, Hamilton wanted to make a move in the later laps but his Ferrari teammate, Charles Leclerc, was ahead of him and apparently Hamilton wanted his team to make a call to get Leclerc out of his way to Hamilton could challenge those ahead of him. Ferrari did not make that call, though Mercedes did order their drivers to execute a similar switch. Over the radio during the race, Hamilton said, “Great way of wasting time guys, good job.”

He explained his comment by saying, “I want to win. I'm here to win and it is difficult when you're looking ahead and you see the two Mercedes drivers, they get the call and it's done - they execute straight away.”

I do understand there is a level of strategy in F1, and teams field multiple drivers with those strategies in mind, but this is a big part of why I can never get into motorsports. It’s like when Ken Miles got screwed at the 1966 Le Mans race to make Ford’s famous three-way photo finish happen. I can just never shake the feeling there’s politicking happening behind the scenes, when I’m watching sports, I want to watch the best athletes compete, not some guy in a booth determining the outcome. (It’s also why I don’t like instant replay! It’s my most elderly opinion!)

Anyway, tough loss for Lewis Hamilton this weekend, but at least he is still a Very Handsome Man. And that is this week in Lewis Hamilton News!
