Lewis Hamilton's good luck charm is not Kim Kardashian but his mother, Carmen

The 2026 Formula 1 season is now five races deep, and while the biggest non-race related gossip in the paddock continues to be Lewis Hamilton’s relationship with Kim Kardashian, we’ve yet to see her in the Ferrari garage. Depending on how you feel about the Kardashian-Jenners, Kim is either a curse or a blessing. Because he did not have any podium finishes last season and he has two this year after they started dating. But, she also hasn’t been there, so an argument could be made either way.

The person who does seem to be his good luck charm, though, no debate, is Lewis’s mother, Carmen, who was with him in China for his first ever podium finish in a Ferrari car earlier this year, and also yesterday in Montreal, where he came in second, his highest ever podium finish with Ferrari. Here’s how mom reacted when Lewis overtook Max Verstappen on lap 62.

And this is what happened after the race when they finally had a moment to celebrate. And there was a reason why he told her that “you have to come every time”.

As Lewis explained during a press conference over the weekend, he’s been trying to get her to come to his races for a couple of years now but she prefers to stay home. This year, finally, she’s agreed to travel with him – he took her to China, and she was the one who wanted to join him in Canada. Lewis, by the way, loves Canada. Montreal is where he won the first F1 race of his career but he’s clearly familiar with other parts of this country because he also reveals that he wanted to take mom to Lake Louise.

Said it before and I’ll say it again – this is not the Lewis Hamilton we saw at the end of 2025. Lewis Hamilton 2026 is happy and confident and he is driving very, very well. This, by the way, was a story coming into the race with motorsport pundits questioning whether or not he could be competitive anymore. That was answered, emphatically, on the track yesterday. And off the track too.

Lewis has always been one of F1’s most gracious drivers, and for Kimi Antonelli, just 19 years old, it must have been an experience he’ll never forget, finishing first in front of his idol and another one of the greats, Max. This is really cute.
