Like I said yesterday, every few hours there’s a new development. And we are getting every new development from Thomas Markle directly…via TMZ. Yesterday afternoon, Meghan Markle’s father, Thomas, told TMZ that despite the fact that he’d changed his mind earlier in the day and does want to walk Meghan down the aisle, he won’t be able to make the trip because he’s having heart surgery today. He also blamed his heart problems on Thomas Markle Jr, Meghan’s half-brother, for writing those two open letters last week. The first letter was to Prince Harry, telling him not to marry Meghan. And the second was an apology for the first, begging to be invited to the wedding.
Pretty sure that, just as it was on Monday when TMZ first broke the news that Thomas Sr was backing out of attending due to embarrassment over his staged paparazzi photos, Kensington Palace probably only found out about Thomas no longer coming anymore from TMZ, like we all did. This, again, is why it’s been f-cking pointless for them to issue any statements. Why bother when Thomas Sr keeps hotlining Harvey Levin? That’s how crazy this situation is. He’s giving direct quotes to them (and not the royal communications team) apparently from his hospital bed. Which, of course, is one of the reasons why this situation is so concerning. Thomas Markle Sr is not well and we’re getting that in real-time through TMZ. Protecting and caring for him has become that much more difficult then. Because if you’re Meghan and Harry, how do you do it without getting compromised?
We are now just three sleeps away from wedding day. And a major wedding detail is now up in the air. Doria Ragland, Meghan’s mother, just flew out of LAX’s private suite late yesterday for London. It’s likely that they would have tried to arrange for private arrival at Heathrow too so that they could take her directly to Meghan without much hassle on this side. As I mentioned yesterday though, I heard that she was supposed to come days ago and that the plans were changed after all the f-cksh-t went down with Thomas. Many now are speculating that it will be Doria to walk Meghan down the aisle. She’s the one accompanying Meghan from Cliveden House to Windsor Castle by car the morning of the wedding. But all of that happens after she’s formally introduced to senior members of the royal family, including the Queen which is how it was all supposed to unfold. I don’t even want to imagine how awkward that’s going to be.
I kinda hope she walks alone though. As we’ve seen, Meghan and Harry have made changes to the “way things are done” and who gets to do them. Instead of having her father “give her away” then, having her mother drop her off a grown and realised woman and then walking independently to the altar might be the image that might work for this wedding and at this time? Especially given the circumstances?
And there is still so much else to consider. For instance, it is soon expected that the Queen will bestow new titles to Harry and Meghan. Will and Kate were conferred as Cambridges shortly before their wedding and everyone’s been waiting to hear what Harry and Meghan will be – Sussexes or whatever. With all that’s gone down this week, I wonder if it’s delayed other royal announcements and pronouncements and if so, what those are and when we’ll hear about them. It’s been full business ahead with all other aspects of the wedding including flowers and cake and security and everything else in Windsor. No other family is better at carrying on.
