Supergirl is also outside
Spider-Man isn’t the only superhero currently outside, hyping the masses for a new movie. Milly Alcock is also doing the rounds for Supergirl, starting in Rio.
There was a premiere and a photocall, and I REALLY like her photocall outfit.

The red leg warmers(?) and shoes are weird—just wear red boots?—but at a glance, the colors are great and the silhouette echoes her Supergirl costume. Like Zendaya earlier today, it’s on point but not costumey, theme dressing as an idea, not an exercise in the literal.
Supergirl comes before Spider-Man: Brand New Day on the release calendar, with five whole weeks between them. This is solid planning, much better than the Marvel/Warner Bros. death spiral still committed for the end of the year with Dune: Part Three and Avengers: Doomsday opening on the same day. That remains extremely stupid. I have heard that the logic is that the winter vacation from school means people can get to both movies, hopefully multiple times, and everyone will win thanks to school being out for a couple weeks at the end of the year. Then both movies can leg it out, side-by-side, through January when there is no real competition (taking a page from the Avatar playbook).
The problem, though, is opening weekend. There can be only one winner, and after the last several years Marvel has had, they simply cannot afford bad headlines. If—when—Dune outpaces Doomsday, the headlines will not be forgiving. It won’t even matter what happens over the next weeks and months, the damage will be done. Someone could still flinch and change their release date before December, though at this point, money has been spent by both parties advertising their December release date, and plans for massive world press campaigns are well underway, so inertia will probably set in and we’re all going to witness a very stupid own goal at the end of the year.
But first, Supergirl and Spider-Man, both set up to succeed. Lainey is very worried about Krypto in Supergirl. I haven’t seen it yet, but they’re going so hard on Krypto in the advertising, I am starting to worry, too. Krypto is becoming the empathy machine of James Gunn’s DC universe.
What else happened today…
Nina Dobrev is at the Taormina Film Festival. The looks are…looking. (Go Fug Yourself)
For once it’s not about the Brits, the Norwegian royal family is “in crisis” as Crown Princess Mette-Marit’s oldest son, Marius Borg Høiby, who was born before she married Crown Prince Haakon, has been convicted of sexual assault and sentenced to four years in prison. On top of that, Mette-Marit has been linked to Jeffrey Epstein, exchanging hundreds of emails and staying in his Florida home (when he was not there). Her health is also not great, as she has chronic pulmonary fibrosis, and is on a waiting list for a lung transplant. Lots going on there, but most importantly, despite powerful connections, Marius Borg Høiby was held accountable for his harmful actions. I hope the British prosecutors are taking notes, but they’re probably not. (Pajiba)
And there it is, Knox Jolie, the last of Angelina Jolie’s children with Brad Pitt, dropped “Pitt” from his high school diploma. Half the kids have now filed legal paperwork to formally change their names, the other half aren’t using “Pitt” in daily life (and I bet they eventually change their names, too). Will this do anything to Brad Pitt’s reputation? No. Too many people still blame Angelina for “alienating” the kids. But as the twins approach their 18th birthday, the Jolie-Pitt kids are now just the Jolie kids. Maybe someday someone will ask Brad Pitt why none of his kids want his name. (Celebitchy)
Page Six has exclusive photos of Love Story star Sarah Pidgeon kissing Joe Alwyn, best known as Taylor Swift’s ex. They were on a date in New York City, where, as we know, Taylor Swift is planning her wedding (location officially TBA). Sarah Pidgeon just had her breakout role in a TV show and is not one of the most famous women in the world. One might say her level is closer to Joe Alwyn’s (for now). They’re both recognizable but not immediately identifiable to the general public. Arguably, Joe Alwyn is more recognizable than Sarah Pidgeon at this time.
Alwyn, who famously preferred to keep his relationship with Taylor under wraps and was rarely photographed with her, was seen walking down the street with his arm around Sarah Pidgeon and packing on PDA during their date. Oh okay, he’s THAT type of insecure. Got it. Got it.
This is why I will never complain about Travis Kelce. Taylor Swift found a man who is excited to be with her, is proud to be with her, enjoys being her #1 cheerleader, enjoys being HER WAG. Travis likes being outside as much as Taylor, and I love that for her. (Page Six)
