We’ve seen a lot of celebrities in Paris for the Olympics over the last ten days. We very rarely see photos of Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendes anywhere, let alone at the most high-key event going on in the world right now. That, alone, makes it newsworthy.

Ryan and Eva were at dressage and also the gymnastics apparatus finals with their daughters. At one point the cameras cut to them and he had his arm around her.

Interestingly enough, Ryan had on another hat for dressage – white, Olympic rings, Peacock. GQ posted that he raided the merch table.

That hat, the white one, according to GQ is “grail-y” because as noted it’s an NBC exclusive. Did he buy it or was it gifted? I’m going with gifted, by NBC obviously, and I’m wondering if that’s how he got his tickets too. Obviously Ryan is rich and connected enough to buy them himself but, you know, it’s not like the IOC and the broadcasters don’t want to see the stars in the stands. The Games have seemed so Hollywood… and the Games haven’t even gotten to Hollywood yet. That’s in another four years.

Ryan and Eva’s return to Paris however reminds me of when they were first together, the year they first started dating, in 2011. Here are a couple of shots of them in Paris, November 2011, she was there to shoot a film and he flew in to pick her up and take her back to LA. But not before a romantic stroll through the city.

This, by the way, was about a year or less after Ryan was linked to someone else… do you remember? It’s a moment in Gossip Nostalgia that most people have probably forgotten about:

Blake Lively.

Blake Lively and Ryan Gosling had a two month or so thing. It started in the fall of 2010, when they were seen at Gibson Girl at Disneyland. A couple of months later, she showed up at the Blue Valentine premiere and the was with him at the afterparty. The reason I remember it so clearly is because I posted about it at the time after entertainment reporter Roger Friedman was there and wrote about it in his gossip column and didn’t recognise Blake. Here’s what he said at the time:

“At dinner at the Standard Grill, I asked the blonde sitting with Gosling and another couple what she did for a living. Everyone started throwing things at me. “That’s Blake Lively,” they all yelled in unison. They were so right, and I was so amiss. For the record, Blake was excellent in “The Town.” I will write it 100 times on a blackboard!”

LOL forever.

That article, by the way, is still up. Interestingly enough, PEOPLE’s article about Blake and Ryan from that time has now been deleted. The link is still there and you can see it here but the content has been removed. Does no one want to remember this?

Ryan and Blake were definitely a thing and then they weren’t a thing and around the same-ish time that Blake finally found the Ryan who was right for her, Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendes fell in love and now they’re all respectively married and have kids. But it’s interesting that their relationship timelines are almost exactly the same, non? And originated with Blake and Ryan G before splitting off?
