Dear Gossips,
I am not Okay! It’s Monday which means it’s the longest time to be away from It’s Okay To Be Not Okay and there are still six whole ass episodes left and I don’t know how much more of these feelings I can take!
In storytelling, as we’ve been saying here on this site for over a decade, thanks to Duana, it’s not about giving the audience what it wants but making sure that the story is about what it needs. This series takes a ridiculous amount of pleasure in giving you what you want… only to punish you with what you need. So you know, you know that when you get something sweet, you better prepare yourself for the sour that’s about to follow. Which, I mean, I don’t know why I’m having such a hard time with this because where I was raised, in my generation, we were taught that happiness always has a cost.
For those of you who are watching, then, and I know now that you’re out there because this weekend has been the most active my inbox has been in a while with so many of you messaging me about this show, do NOT trust that preview for next week’s episodes. It was a gift to make up for the heavy sh-t we’ve just had to go through over the last two episodes and to get you through the week but be ready for them to f-ck you up after luring you into hope.
Basically I’ve just slammed my bedroom door and yelled at them to never speak to me again. By Thursday I’ll be trying to make up with them.
By the way, It’s Okay To Not Be Okay was trending worldwide on Twitter all weekend so clearly there’s a hugely engaged community that’s watching, not just in South Korea but around the world. Netflix is winning in so many different ways. The Old Guard is now the #1 movie in the world. Michael Jordan’s The Last Dance is now available on Netflix around the world (here in Canada, we got it the next day after it aired on ESPN). Netflix continues to innovate in reality series. And it’s been a powerful distributor of international productions that are finding a bigger and bigger audience… maybe because they were interested in not such a narrow audience to begin with?
Yours in gossip,
Lainey
