Celebrity Social Media, July 8, 2025
A few weeks back I posted a bit of a question mark around Diane Kruger and Norman Reedus and they just celebrated their anniversary. So clearly, no question mark needed.
Denise Richards’s husband Aaron Phypers has filed for divorce. In my opinion, he is in the top 10 of “weirdos married to Housewives” category and let me tell you, the competition is stiff. Aaron was also once married to Nicolette Sheridan, who was married to Harry Hamlin, who is of course married to Lisa Rinna. Denise and Lisa were long-time friends who almost instantly fell out as soon as the cameras went up.
Lainey mentioned Jason Bateman this morning in her post about Jennifer Aniston and Jason, for some reason, has just joined Instagram. He has posts up, but related to SmartLess tagging him. The new post is more in his voice. So, why now? Why board a sinking ship? It’s not like social media is getting better or this will benefit SmartLess (which is wildly popular). It’s not like Zootopia 2 needs his social media.
My guess is it has to do with Black Rabbit coming out in September.
Girls is a summer show so Lena Dunham’s July takeover feels right. Too Much is near.
Eva Longoria is highlighting an independent newsroom, L.A. Taco. Yes it’s an Instagram post which could come down to slacktivism, but at the very least she is highlighting power imbalances in media. She has also been consistently posting about immigrant rights in the US. And it’s interesting because she has a lot of access to money and power, most notably the Bozos Bezos wedding, and she hasn’t even liked Lauren Sanchez’s post. And Lauren isn’t liking any of hers. Eva was at the bachelorette party and sources told Page Six she couldn’t make the wedding because she was filming… in Spain. Pretty close to Italy. Hmmmmmmm.
Alex Cooper got booed while singing “Take Me Out to the Ballgame” during the seventh inning stretch. OK, this is an anxiety dream coming to life. Singing that song, which is kind of like a talking waltz, in front of that crowd (baseball fans are no joke) and getting booed? I hope she can laugh about it.
Love Island USA is getting all kinds of headlines right now, but not for the same reasons as last year (which was the legit chemistry of the couples AND the women). This year is more about controversy and when it comes to reality TV, we need to take a closer look at the producers. Many North American viewers don’t know about the Love Island UK suicides (a former host and two contestants); you can read more in this 2022 Vanity Fair article. And we can say adults sign up for it, but the shock of instant fame while you are sequestered is a specific kind of psychological game. The vetting of contestants this year (or lack thereof) should be a conversation.
