Before we get into Alison Brie’s outfit…
I was thinking of her even before I saw her look at the premiere of Somebody I Used To Know because there was a headline earlier this week about how she loves streaking. This made me laugh since I think I have the streaker gene in me. I’m often streaking indoors in front of my friends. Sometimes I just like wandering into a room naked. Fiona and Duana carry on like it’s nothing. Sasha’s the one who can never get used to it. This is a milestone birthday year for me. I’ve been thinking of streaking somewhere to commemorate it which, I guess, defeats the purpose of streaking because it’s supposed to be a surprise.
Anyway, Alison was talking about streaking because there’s a scene in the film, which she co-wrote with Dave Franco, where her character pulls a streak. She says in real life she used to do it a lot in university and that it makes her laugh but that she’s had to chill on the streaking these days because Dave isn’t entirely comfortable with it. Apparently she used to streak on the Glow set now and again. This is now my favourite thing about Alison Brie.
As for the outfit…
It’s Balmain and the shoulder that both Balmain and Balenciaga have been known for over the last few years. Which we haven’t seen a lot of lately, but it looks good on Alison here. Did you know that this shoulder style is called the Pagoda? And its origins are from China?
Pierre Cardin first did it in the 70s when he visited there, eventually producing several collections, and was inspired by the architecture, specifically the Pagodas, the towers that sort of look like trees. From there he turned it into fashion, creating the signature shoulder that he wore himself and that was actually favoured by some men in the 80s. Balmain revived it in the 2000s and they were all over the place in the 2010s now here we are on Alison Brie as we get deeper into the 2020s.
