As Sarah wrote last week, we are all shipping Meryl Streep and Martin Short. That was in her post on Friday with photos of them at the premiere, and Marty and Meryl both have said they are just friends, not dating, even though we’ve all been speculating about it for a year now, ever since season three of Only Murders in the Building and after we found out that Meryl is divorced from ex-husband Don Gummer.

Over the last couple of days, everyone’s talking about this video of the two arriving to the after-party holding hands, in plain view. We all have phones, we are all filming on our phones all of the time. And here they are, feeling no way about being seen with their hands clasped together - *just* friends:

Um, does that look like *just* friends to you? I’ll tell you what it looks like – it looks like Steve Martin is the third wheel! Anyone who’s ever been a third wheel can relate to Steve Martin in this video. And you can only be a third wheel when there are two other wheels romantically holding hands!

According to Page Six, Meryl and Marty were close all night and he seemed “attentive” towards her. But also, they apparently left separately. Does that really mean anything though?

Leaving together is a young love thing. When you get to a certain age, you’re not fussed about who leaves first or whatever or not one person stays and the other goes home to bed. Speaking of beds, when you get to a certain age, you also don’t need to share one, or even a home. Meryl and Marty are around the same age, they have their own habits, their own preferences, their own spaces, their own bank accounts. I feel like it’s almost ideal to be dating this way at this time in their lives, and occasionally sleep over, but each person has their own house they can go back to.

My point is, just because they didn’t leave together doesn’t mean they aren’t together. You can’t convince me otherwise!
