Sydney Sweeney is (almost) single

As mentioned in What Else? the other day there have been rumours now for a few weeks that Sydney Sweeney is no longer engaged to Jonathan Davino. The wedding was supposed to be in May and the speculation is that it’s been postponed, if not entirely cancelled. While Jonathan was seen at their home a couple of weeks ago supervising renovations, Sydney’s reportedly been living at the Beverly Hills Hotel since February. And she deleted a photo of him from her Instagram. 

Now Us Weekly is citing a source who says that:

“Sydney and Jonathan have been having major issues but are not fully split. Things are not great right now, but they aren’t throwing in the towel yet. They are working on their relationship but have called off the wedding for now. They were supposed to get married this spring. The wedding is not happening, and they aren’t having further discussions about it. Sydney wanted to cancel everything and couldn’t handle the stress.”

According to this source, most of their issues are about scheduling and how busy she is, while Jonathan wants to spend more time on their relationship. What I was saying the other day when I mentioned this briefly? No disrespect to their love but, like, this can’t be a surprise, right? 

Sydney is 27 years old, she and Jonathan started dating in 2018, when she was around 20, and got engaged three years ago, when she was 24 and just popping off from back-to-back success of Euphoria season two, followed by The White Lotus season one. They fell in love pre-fame, real fame. And fame, the kind of fame that Sydney is experiencing now can fundamentally change the dynamics of a romance, especially when one person is famous and the other… is not. And especially when the two people are, fame or not, in different stages of life. Jonathan is in his early 40s, she’s a 20-something Hollywood power player now, producing her own hit movies and landing bigger and bigger opportunities. Staying together, sorry to say, was always going to be the miracle. 

As for the source talking about how they’re not “fully split”… I dunno, her Instagram post yesterday would suggest that she might be letting him down easy. “Only up from here” refers to the balloon, sure, but she knows the social media game, we’re not going to pretend she doesn’t know what people are saying right now. It’s not necessarily a confirmation but it can really only be read one way, right? 

Also… were she and her friends styled for this safari? Because these outfits are SO good. 

Now can I be a sh-t disturber, even though it’s too soon? Sorry, can’t help myself. But, you know, when the appropriate time has passed, my Gossip Genie wish is for Sydney Sweeney and Timothée Chalamet to be cast in a movie together… and then, bring on the f-cking chaos. Or “khaos”. You know what I mean.
