Taylor Swift’s album, 1989, was released in October 2014, just before her 25th birthday. You’ll recall, that album cycle was all about New York and friends and parties. There was a big birthday party, in New York, and the reason it’s so memorable, at least to some of us, is because Beyoncé actually showed up.

With the release of 1989 (Taylor’s Version), Taylor has been serving 1989 nostalgia for months – from the squad hangs to the even some of the outfits, it’s big 1989 energy, and that’s true for her birthday last night, in New York, and the celebrity guest list. Taylor wore a sparkly tank dress, with heels, to party-hop with her famous friends, including Blake Lively, Zoë Kravitz, Gigi Hadid, Jack Antonoff, Sabrina Carpenter, Antoni Porowski…and no Travis Kelce who was in Kansas City with his team. As noted yesterday, given that KC has lost two in a row, probably not a good look for him to be bouncing off to NYC, and I’m not convinced that he was ever really supposed to anyway, because the original reports about him planning some kind of blowout for her was from Us Weekly so the takeaway here is that Us Weekly is not all that accurate. Us Weekly hasn’t been what it was in the 2000s in a long, long time.
My big question was whether or not there was going to be some official social media activity – and that didn’t happen. Maybe it didn’t need to since TNT were already blowing up on socials in the two days preceding her birthday with all those cute shots of them from the holiday event they were at on Sunday night. As I keep saying, we don’t need to blow the load too early on this rom-com. Nobody likes an overstuffed episode, better to keep the content rolling out at a steady pace. Gives us something to look forward to.
