Wes Anderson’s The French Dispatch received the longest standing ovation so far in Cannes this year. It was supposed to be released last year, and it’s been a while since the last Wes Anderson live action feature. From what I’ve seen and read, critics so far seem pretty positive about it; maybe not as erect as they were for The Grand Budapest Hotel but they’re into it, and there’s already talk about whether or not The French Dispatch could be an Oscar contender.
It was the big premiere last night at the festival and of course, whenever Wes Anderson puts together a film, it’s with a marquee ensemble cast, including many who return to work with him time and time again. It’s the Anderson Company of Actors at this point – Bill Murray, Frances McDormand, Owen Wilson (we’ll get to him in another post), Adrien Brody, Willem Dafoe, Edward Norton, Saoirse Ronan, and of course Tilda Swinton. Timothée Chalamet has now joined the troupe. It makes total sense. Timmy fits right in with the Wes Anderson acting vibe and the Wes Anderson wallpaper. He could be his own wallpaper.
As we know, there’s an entire corner of the internet/Twitter dedicated to Timmy adoration. And another corner dedicated to Tilda adoration. And maybe a Venn corner dedicated to the combination of the two. And now here they are, Tilda and Timmy together, in Cannes with their matching metallic last night, like an otherworldly mother-son duo. They are clearly fond of each other:

Also attached, the two of them at the photo call today, both with their sunglasses on. Obviously Tilda and Timmy were the party last night.
