Michael B Jordan’s London Life
“London life” in the title of this post to the tune of Beyoncé’s “Cuff It”, near the end of the song when she sings:
“’Cause we gon’ f-ck up the night
Take flight, blinding lights”
…because forever I thought she was singing “London lights” or “London life", is it just me? So when I came up with the title, that’s the song that popped into my head – not the worst song to pop into your head. How are we almost at the four year anniversary of Renaissance?!
Anyway, about MBJ who was at the annual Serpentine Summer Party last night in London, always a celebrity favourite, and he just might be the biggest name who showed up (Note from Emily: though, unfortunately, none of our agencies have any photos of him???). After all, he’s a huge movie star, he is the reigning Best Actor Oscar winner, and he doesn’t actually go out that much anymore. So when he does go out, it’s kind of a story.
MBJ has spent a lot of time in London over the last couple of years. He was in London for pre-production and then production on his reboot of The Thomas Crowne Affair and he probably did at least some work in post in London too. I haven’t yet heard any reaction if there have been test screenings but footage from the film was screened at CinemaCon back in March and even though it was just a short clip, people were jacked. Everyone I’ve talked to who was there says it looks really f-cking good – like slick and sexy. And that’s his follow-up to his performance in Sinners, due out next March, so he could be about to put another exclamation mark on his win.
But before that, presumably, he and Austin Butler will start shooting the new Miami Vice movie. And I don’t say this because I want filming to be disrupted by paparazzi but… um… those set photos are going to be sizzling.
In other MBJ news, his name came up in relation to Love Island USA the other day because people were saying on social media that he’s been lurking on Sol’s posts. When Sol got dumped from the island, she clarified that he liked her post before she was on the show… but I’m not sure that changes the intrigue? MBJ is aware of Sol, clearly. That said, as I’ve already said, if he does make a Love Island connection, I’m hoping it’s with Ciara Miller.

Keke Palmer is one half of the couple we’re all rooting for – and she’s giving us an update on whether or not she and Sean Evans are or could be a thing. “One wing at a time” is sending me… (Celebitchy)
Barack and Michelle Obama are on the cover the new issue of PEOPLE which I’m sure people are being normal about. There are some haters who are deeply invested in this couple and desperately want their marriage to go south. I am not a hater but I am more deeply invested in their daughters, Malia and Sasha. President Obama says that he can’t keep up with how cool they are and, as usual, he’s right. One of my favourite moments featuring his family at the White House is when his girls, then teens, looked at him with disdain during one of the turkey pardons. (People)
Duana wrote a brilliant piece at The Squawk today about sexual abuse in fame-adjacent industries, specifically pegged to the release of the new documentary, Dear Lara. It is heartbreaking and powerful and important. Dear Lara is now available to stream in Canada – the subject matter is tough, for sure, but more people knowing about what’s been happening is vital to, hopefully, making sure it stops happening.
