Intro for July 2, 2025
Dear Gossips,
On Monday I posted about Jon Bernthal and how much I enjoy him in The Bear. It’s now been exactly a week since all episodes of season four of the series was released – I’m through seven of them, saving the final three for tonight, but I went into it thinking that this was it; not that there was any official confirmation but this was the assumption, since so many members of the cast are so much more famous now than they were when they first started shooting, which means more offers and opportunities, busier schedules, etc.
Yesterday, though, an announcement from F/X: The Bear has been renewed for season five which is expected to premiere some time next year. Over four seasons, The Bear has always premiered the same week in June. It’ll be interesting to see whether or not they’ll be able to make it five for five with a June release.
With seasons three and four, though it was widely assumed that they shot both seasons at the same time, it turns out that only part of season four was filmed when season three was in production but the bulk of season four was shot last winter. Presumably, if they’re working towards a June 2026 premiere for The Bear season five, they’ll go into production this coming winter – while Jeremy Allen White could be on an award season run for playing Bruce Springsteen in Deliver Me From Nowhere.
I’ve been thinking, though, while watching the first seven episodes this season, is that The Bear is a winter show to me. As in, I always think of these people as existing in the winter. Even if there are stretches of episodes that aren’t winter-based, I situate the show in cold weather. And because of that, I have no idea how much time has actually passed between when the show started in season one and where the show is now. This isn’t helped by all the flashbacks either. I’m sure there’s a website (or dozens of them) that can tell me the exact timeline, but this is not my point. My point is that this is part of the show’s personality for me – that the people in this world are stuck in a permanent winter, and I wonder, whenever season five comes around, whether or not that might change when and if that is the true conclusion.
