Sandra Bullock was on Jimmy Kimmel Live! last night promoting her new Netflix movie, The Unforgivable, which opens in limited theatrical release this week before streaming on Netflix December 10. It’s been a while since we’ve had Sandra in the spotlight. She keeps her sh-t tight, she does what she can to stay away from the noise, so when we get her, it doesn’t last long, she’s in and out, she fulfills her press commitments, and she gets right back out. Sandy is one of the biggest stars in the world who is not yet on social media – at least not publicly. But she’s very close with Jennifer Aniston who is on Instagram… I wonder whether or not Sandy might ever change her mind. If you consider the American Sweethearts of that era (Jen, Julia Roberts, Reese Witherspoon), so far Sandy is the holdout.
Sandra was pure Sandra for her interview with Kimmel. She’s breezy and fun, she told stories about her kids and how her son is over her, and she dipped into nerd world with an emphatic denial about being in a Marvel movie after all those rumours about her being in Spider-Man. She claims she’s never been approached. Kimmel’s like, you could be lying to me. She insists she’s not. But, whatever, Marvel people lie all the time. And Sandra’s good at… misdirecting. My favourite Sandra Bullock misdirect is wayyyyy back, when she said that she and Matthew McConaughey were “friends” when asked about whether or not they were dating. What she didn’t say was “just friends” – it’s not the same as straight up saying NO about Marvel. But also I don’t think she gives a sh-t, even if she does end up in the movie, to be called out for not being truthful about it. What makes her delightful though is that, I believe her. I don’t know if I should, but I do.

And Taylor Swift two weeks ago was also in a purple velvet suit when she was promoting Red (Taylor’s Version). Lady Gaga was in purple at the London premiere of The House of Gucci. Purple was also featured several times at the AMAs the other night on Cardi B and Becky G and some consider Olivia Rodrigo’s sequined dress a shade of purple so purple is a thing right now. Purple also happens to be the colour of BTS. And BTS is on a cultural takeover. Purple everywhere. Purple for the holidays too?
