They’ll never admit it but it must be exhausting for the Jennifer Lopez haters on TikTok who persist on trying disappear her that she has been able to rebound so often from her lows. Two years ago at this time the headlines about her were that Ben Affleck had ghosted out of their marriage; she subsequently cancelled a tour and negative posts about her went mega-viral on social media. That was 2024. As we are about to kick off the summer of 2026, JLo is once again on the upswing.

MC wrote about it in his column yesterday – JLo’s “On The Floor” is one of the biggest hits of the last month, her biggest streaming hit ever, 15 years after its release, embraced by a younger “Jen-eration” after watching Off-Campus. That track, by the way, has never left my running playlist. It is perfect for my sprint pace and I always finish strong when it comes up on shuffle during my final kilometre.

The timing for this could not be better. Because of course JLo is promoting her new rom-com, Office Romance, with Brett Goldstein, also known as her biggest fan. The two, naturally, have been paired for interview and appearances, and Netflix this week dropped a joint interview with JLo quizzing him on her movies only to learn that Brett, evidently, has a PhD in Jennifer Lopez.

This might be promo, but he’s selling the sh-t out of it. Brett is an expert on the JLo Cinematic Universe and wrote this role in Office Romance FOR HER. As I’ve said before, what I love about this is that it presents a conundrum for those who are determined to accuse her of doing the most, faking whatever she can, even if it means a relationship, in order to advance her own work… because if this movie is anyone’s work, proprietarily, it would be Brett’s. And he’s out here hustling just as hard as she is, leaning into whatever narrative people want to see, in order to ensure that his work is seen. Since his reputation up to this point (as a writer and a performer and comedian in Ted Lasso and with Shrinking and his podcasts and etc etc) is that of a creative powerhouse, a serious creative, attributing his enthusiastic participation in the marketing as the actions of a man brainwashed falls apart real fast. They are equal partners in this game – and if anything, he might be the thirstier one.

But I don’t mean to sound cynical because I’m not, I am the opposite. If it is a game, I’m playing it too, I want to believe it! I want this to be more than professional, I am sold on the chemistry, I’m already imagining my own script with these interactions… is she blushing when she finds out that he really does know more about her movies and her characters than she does? Is Brett Goldstein the green flag that JLo has been searching for her whole life? Green is her favourite colour – but she saw green where there was red. Now, though, is she ready to see the true green of Brett’s aura?

Yes, yes, just say yes!

After all, he’s the best kiss of her career.

Look at them last night at the premiere. I want, I want, let’s make this real.

We're Squawking Brettifer again, because damn it, we deserve this! (App link here)
